On my PC, Browse Preview on the export dialogue box does nothing....
Hi folks
Just wondering if anyone else is having this issue.
On Xara Designer Pro X 19.0.0.64291 running on Windows 10.0.19045.2546 (2H22) with IE11 uninstalled and with a working Firefox 110 Beta 4 as my default browser, I have the following issue:
If I export an object to a JPG or a PNG, then click the browser preview, nothing happens.
Now I know this function uses the small executable Xaralink.exe, which is located in "%programfiles%\Xara\Xara Designer Pro X\19"
This file definitely exists in this location and does get run when I attempt the preview.
I am wondering if anyone else is having the same issue when they do a browser Preview from the JPG/PNG export dialogue box?
I am currently using a workaround which involves using my own Xaralink.exe compiled with Autohotkey. This allows the browser preview from within Xara’s JPG/PNG export dialogue box.
I am waiting for Xara DPX 20 (Not interested in Xara’s subscription model) to see if this issue resolves in that version. I don’t really want to reinstall 19 as my work-a-round serves me well at this time.

Re: On my PC, Browse Preview on the export dialogue box does nothing....
uninstalling IE 11 may be your problem here... xara version 19 still relies on IE API for some of these functions and if you remove IE you remove these; I would not hold your breath for it being fixed in the next magix version
however it is fixed in the latest pro+ version, which has migrated entirely over to edge for preview, but is subscription
you could try putting IE 11 back to see if it works again
btw - is there a particular reason you removed IE... it is still on my computer, I just never ever use it

Re: On my PC, Browse Preview on the export dialogue box does nothing....
Yeah I had a feeling it might be uninstalling IE11. I took it off due to it being touted as insecure. (then again, maybe I've drunk a bit too much cool aid on that one)
The Xara “Preview Current Web page” and “Preview Whole Website”, and FTP uploading from Xara still works with IE11 removed, so I think I’ll leave IE11 uninstalled.
The only other issue I had with the removal of IE11 is that links in emails opened in outlook 2007 (Yes, I know) no longer worked. I was able to fix this with a registry edit.
I think for the JPG/PNG export preview, I will just keep using my Autohotkey compiled Xaralink.exe. I do have a backup of Xara’s original Xaralink.exe file for justin. Maybe when Xara 20 comes out, I will see if that fixes it. However, as you say, I am not holding my breath for a fix until a few versions down the track.

Re: On my PC, Browse Preview on the export dialogue box does nothing....
question is Egg, are you seeing IE11, or the IE11 mode of Edge ?
you have made me think that maybe my reference should have been to win11 not xara though.... I'll have to check

Re: On my PC, Browse Preview on the export dialogue box does nothing....
I avoid Edge apart from testing sites HD so I'm not sure if I have this feature enabled.

Re: On my PC, Browse Preview on the export dialogue box does nothing....
the IE mode of the edge browser is active by default in the latest versions of window 10 and windows 11; in fact I believe IE is deactivated completely in win 11 by default
it means anything calling for IE gets Edge instead in IE mode

Then why do I get IE browser preview then HD?

Re: On my PC, Browse Preview on the export dialogue box does nothing....
you know far more about building websites in xara than I will ever know egg - I can't answer that; for a start I don't know exactly what it is you are doing; if I preview a simple mock up web document it opens in firefox which is my default browser, presumably you are doing something different ?
if xara are still 'forcing' IE, especially in win11, then it's about time they moved rapidly into the modern secure way of doing things...
acorn probably has all the answers up his sleeve ;)

Which I took to mean he was exporting a bitmap to his HD and whilst doing so selected Browser Preview. This is where I get an IE browser preview.
Previewing a website opens in Firefox my default browser.
Getting our wires crossed here ;)

Edge is Edge, whether Win10 or 11. When I preview in Xara 19, Edge pops up like a faithful Labrador.

I'm dragging a .jpg into Xara, either web, photo or document project. Preview opens Edge (default browser).
Am I missing something? I bet I am. I usually do.

I'm sorry, I don't understand what that means.

More me not understanding 200 year old poetry than Scottish. Shakespeare is another for the same reason.

‘A Man’s a Man for A’ That’: A Poem by Robert Burns
Also known by its first line, ‘Is There for Honest Poverty’, ‘A Man’s a Man for A’ That’ (i.e. ‘for all that’) laments the fact that equality does not exist among men. The poem ends with the heartfelt call ‘That man to man the world o’er, / Shall brothers be for a’ that.’ The poem was sung at the opening of the Scottish Parliament in 1999.

lets hear it for equality amongst browsers.... :D

Thanks Acorn & HD. I don't believe I've ever used it prior to this post either.

Re: On my PC, Browse Preview on the export dialogue box does nothing....
I shall add to our merry little band by wishing Egg a happy birthday, and pressing that preview button for the first time in my life. Why is it even there???
It opened Edge by the way.

Re: On my PC, Browse Preview on the export dialogue box does nothing....
everything is on edge these days, down under, so I hear... [shuts door swiftly but gently on way out.....]

'cos back in the day it was a quick way of checking how the image scaled, what size it took, download speed, etc. Even longer back, Image Map & usemap were a way of getting precise hover areas. A time when web was less integrated.
Mine opens in Opera.

makes sense...
this certainly is a blast from the past:

Please note that some browsers may not display PNG images correctly. Try GIF or JPEG as an alternative format.
now we are moving to SVG....

Promidi
Thanks for the idea
I wrote my script in AutoIt and now the image export preview opens in my default browser.
Preview in Internet Explorer... in 2023...
