MenuMaker and IE7.. not working
I have web site, http://www.sunrisedoors.com, that was working just fine in IE6 but since I installed IE7 this morning the drop down menus are BLANK...
Would appreciate someone checking out the site and letting me know if you encounter the same problem.
And any suggestions as to a resolution would be GREATLY appreciated!

Re: MenuMaker and IE7.. not working
They work fine in Firefox 1.5. My guess is that Micro$haft has some nonstandard implementation (surprise! surprise!). Perhaps the powers that be at Xara will want to see to that if my hunch is correct.

Alan

Re: MenuMaker and IE7.. not working
Using IE7 here and the drop-down menus are blank, but they do drop down and continue in succession.

Yes Alan, they work fine in IE6 and FF....
Suprise, surprise for sure!!!
Have opened a ticket with support, but no response as yet....
One would think that XARA has already tested their products with IE7....
Thank you for the response!

Re: MenuMaker and IE7.. not working
I hear that a lot of commercial sites optimized for EI6 are not going to work so well with EI7 because Micro$haft is dropping some of its nonstandard quirks.

Now to get back on topic: I think it's possible to make the menues work for internet explorer, since when I create a menu it works for me in iexplorer 6 and 7, so I guess there is some catch there. Maybe just make a different menu and see how it goes? I will try to figure something out later.

I agree with you, but my problem is directly related to MenuMaker, a commercial product that one would have hoped would have been vetted during the IE7 testing ... by Xara....

I went back into FP 2003 and it is throwing a script error fit with the code that MenuMaker is generating... perhaps that is the starting point?
If you would like to see the code being generated, let me know...

Re: MenuMaker and IE7.. not working
I am not that familiar with javascript so a code debug will not help me. I will get back to you later one when I figure that out.

Re: MenuMaker and IE7.. not working
Hi,
Just checking to see if you were able to 'see' the problem and if you were any closer to suggesting a resolution.
I submitted a support ticket to Xara on 10/21/06 reporting the menus were not working when viewed using IE7 (the drop down menu boxes were BLANK).. worked with IE6 and FireFox.
As of this date, 10/28/06, the only communication I have received from Xara 'Support' is the acknowledgement that they received my initial Support Ticket....
As you can see my support experience does not display Xara in good light and very frustrating in that visitors to my WEB site using IE7 have got to try another browser....
Here's hoping you can shed some light on things

Re: MenuMaker and IE7.. not working
sunriseal, I checked on the code because I thought it is similar to other DHTML code, but it seems it isn't. I don't have much time these days and I just check on the forum to see what's new. I couldn't figure how to modify the javascript code in menumaker code. If you like I can explain to you how to modify a different DHTML menu code that will suit your needs. If you want its best you leave me a PM since I might not notice the post.

Re: MenuMaker and IE7.. not working
Hmm, I use menu maker in my website with cascading drop down menus and it looks fine for me in the new IE7?!

You have to ask nicely ...
-
Re: MenuMaker and IE7.. not working
I reported the problem.. weeks later I recieved a reply... since I had already dumped them and their product, I dumped their reply and half-assed 'apology' for taking so long...
That is as far as I have to go as a customer. I'll be damned if I have to do anything else :)
I obtained a great replacement... the support is outstanding!
I do my best to spread the word about Xara....

You're not serious. Aren't you?
Perhaps there are some SPAM web sites blocked, but I would congratulate the adminstrators for this work, if that's really true.
In the way, you are typing this, I don't believe you - sorry.

Because you're pissed off. I understand, that you're a little bit angry, if a software product doesn't work correct. And it seems, the Xara support isn't able to send you an quick answer together with a solution for your problem.
But in my eyes there is no big problem, if I would pay $ 24,99 for a piece of software and the support isn't the fastest one. I would send the software back to them. (btw: I wouldn't expect, that a company is able to hold a lot of people in the support, if the customers pay $ 24,99 for one software package. How much is your hourly rate?)

I'm not sure, if there is a spam filter installed in this forum software, who replaces your chars with "******"? Therefore I said, I do not believe you.

Re: MenuMaker and IE7.. not working
Guys... please let me explain: The stars censor the s0think company (I typed zeron instead of an "o") they were spamming the forum so this word was censored by the administrator.
sunriseal didn't know that. Anyone typing the word (company's name) will get **** instead of the word. I kinda like their DHTML menu but I sure wouldn't pay the amount they ask.
Sunriseal, if you haven't already paid for the product, may I suggest you take a look at some of the free products at www.coffeecup.com there is a free DHTML simple menu. I hope it will help you out somehow.
If you wish to check the product type www.s0think.com (put "o" instead of zero)

That's the right tip, Availor. It's not necessary to buy a commercial solution for a simple DHTML menu...

If they are doing their business through spamming in forums, I wouldn't check their web site. Spammers are so ...
And Sunriseal: sorry for not believing you.

Re: MenuMaker and IE7.. not working
Hi,
I am having the Front Page problem as well, with IE7 installed.
I've just joined, and have read through this thread, but, no one has posted an answer yet.
Does anyone know if there is a solution from Xara yet?
Thanks in advance,
Mike

Re: MenuMaker and IE7.. not working
I have another problem I'm hoping some one can help me with.
I'm designing a site. The menu from menu maker is working perfectly, in every browser I can find to try it in EXCEPT IE7. At first I could not see the text on the submenus, but a trip to the Menu Maker site resulted in my removing the italics property of the text on the horizontal flyouts. Now I can see the text, BUT there is a small gap between the first sub-menu and its sub-menu. When you move the mouse cursor across this gap the second flyout closes and the menu item is not selected. On all the other browsers, this gap does not exist and the sub-sub-menu works.
Does anyone have any suggestions how I can get it to work in IE7 (I don't have any earlier versions to try it on - Microsoft "upgraded" IE 6 to 7!!!)?
Thank you

Uninstall IE7 (Control Panel|Add/Remove) and you will be back IE6

I'm sorry, that is not an acceptable solution. I need the page to be viewed by a world who thinks IE is the only browser. "It comes with windows, therefore it must be the one to use. Why should I install another browser when I have one already?" This world has now had its XP installations "upgraded" to IE7 just as mine has!
What I need is a work-around to make the code work in IE7

EXCUSE ME!!! All I did was answer your question with what I know! I do not work for this outfit... as a matter of fact I have dumped this product and now use another that works well wilth ALL browsers... including IE7...
Perhaps you should do the same!

Well, I solved it by trial and error.
I remembered that I still had IE6 on a little-used older machine running W98. Its main use now is to run Ubuntu (now that's a system). I networked the two machines and tested my code in W98. It worked fine. So there is, its something about the way that IE7 renders the code differently from all the other browsers in the universe ... typical Microsoft. On a hunch I tried reducing the border size from 5 to 0 (zero) in the Menu Properties table . Its not clear from the sample above the table what that does, but it passes the "IE7 test" and now I have code that works in every browser that I can find. So now to get back to the more important task of developing content.
And to sunriseal my appologies, if appologies are needed. I had not intended to be rude. The desire to see the code in IE6 was just to try to narrow the source of the error. "Was it Microsoft, or just IE7?" The more important concern in my mind was to make it work in IE7 - after all that is what over 85% of my visitors will be using (may not be logical, but its the way the world works right now!). Uninstalling IE7 just to get IE6 was not an option.
As an aside. Loading the code into IE7 as a local file gave a security error in IE7. Loading exactly the same code into IE7 from a web server, caused no errors at all. No other browser complained either. Go figure that one! Personally, I'm just happy that it works. http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Appologies not required... I can understand your frustraiton... MS is a real piece of work!
Further so are the vendors that DO NOT test their products against new versons of ANYTHING coming form MS.

Re: MenuMaker and IE7.. not working
I also installed IE7 yesterday. Later, I decided to work on my website in FP 2003 and when I refreshed the page I would continue to get a script error. I've have never had a problem like this before. What should I do? Anyone?

Uninstall IE7 is one suggestion....
Another would be to not PREVIEW in FP2003 but PREVIEW using an external BROWSER

Re: MenuMaker and IE7.. not working
Sunriseal~I'm seriously thinking of dropping them too. Twice in the last year I've sent a ticket and both times they sent me to this forum for help. I'm very thankful for this forum and all the help but you'd think Xara's support team could offer some help other than simply send you to their customers for help. Anyhow, I am looking for a new menu maker can you suggest a user friendly one? Much thanks.

Perhaps Microsoft will have an answer (ie: issue a fix), but I would not hold my breath :)

Sunriseal...You mentioned in an earlier post that you no longer use Menu Maker and that you are now using another program that you like much better. Would you care to share the name of the program? I'm shopping. LOL

Re: MenuMaker and IE7.. not working
try going to xara.com/support and searching for ie7 from the search box on the right.
you'll find 2 articles that are relevant to this thread ( menus in ie7 and FP script errors)
These articles have been present since early november
