Problem with ClipView and lines
Hi guys.
I've noticed quite a strange behavior with the ClipView feature.
I tried to put a blend of color over my graphics with the ClipView (applying a colored rectangle over), and noticed that the shape outlines are for some reason excluded from the clipview.
It happens even if those outlines are not at the edge of the clipping shape, but also if they're inside (let's say a clipping shape is a group of objects).
Hovever, if it's an open line object, it works perfectly as a part of a clipping shape.

Does anybody notice this behaviour? Any thoughts how to make outlines count as a part of a clipping shape?
Thank you guys, I'd appreciate any help!
Denis.

Re: Problem with ClipView and lines
Well, not knowing what look/effect you are trying to achieve, is this it?

Re: Problem with ClipView and lines
Sorry, I was not clear enough.
I'm actually trying to achieve the opposite - so the square would be totally undisturbed by any lines.
To me, the lines seem to be logically a part of clipping shape, and it's strange that they're excluded.
Re: Problem with ClipView and lines
I agree that the square object shouldn't be affected and it is.
As an attempt to find a work-around, I find that if I group the circles and the line, draw a rectangle large enough to incorporate the two circles, then place the yellow square on top, select all, clipview then leaves the square/line interaction alone.

Re: Problem with ClipView and lines
do you mean like this ?:
Attachment 114091
the outline of a shape is not part of the shape; only the shape part of an object clips
one possible work around here:

Re: Problem with ClipView and lines
The clipping shape needs to below the shapes to be clipped.
Re: Problem with ClipView and lines
Egg, HD,
There is the problem that the OP describes. There is only one way for the line not to affect the yellow rectangle and be part of the clip view group.

Re: Problem with ClipView and lines
mike I read the problem as this:
Quote:
and noticed that the shape outlines are for some reason excluded from the clipview
an object's outlines are not part of it's shape - from memory the same applies to contours and bevels - edit checked this and it turns out bevels and contours do clip
as for the line - it is clipping the rectangle - you won't see this when the line is totally within the shape of another object in the group, because the resolution of both objects clipping does not result in a visual change; but you can see it if you slide the line so it is part within and part without the shape:

Re: Problem with ClipView and lines
and a bit more
there is a 'pecking order' in the group as how the clipping is applied - you can see that in the above post example where the semi-tranparent circle is above the solid circle and so it's clipping can be seen over the outline of the solid one
same would apply to the line if it were the highest stack in the group the line clipping becomes visible over the outline of the semi-transparent circle, which is still clipping over the outline of the solid circle at the stack bottom:

lines clip
shapes clip
lines that are closed result in a shape that clips; and beveled and a contoured shapes clip
but outlines don't, they are part of the object but not the shape - when you think about it since they exist 50% within and 50% without of the shape boundary, they can't be part of the shape itself
which is not to say they couldn't be programed to clip, but they are not

Re: Problem with ClipView and lines
aand on that basis you don't need to do the full routine I outlined in post #5
just cloning your outlined shape and converting the clone to shape with 'convert line to shape' and grouping should do it:
