LOL!!
I realized the cat wasn't drawn. I was specifically referring to your other works. 😆

@Graham, thanks!
Hey, my passtimes keep me off the streets.
You really don't want me on the streets.
@Ron, thanks once again, my friend.

I'm glad we're keeping you off the streets and out of trouble. :)
Yeah, God knows I might try to single-handedly invade Berserkistan or something.

I like it. A monument to ourselves. A small race of ape like creatures on a small planet, in a small solar system among hundreds of billions of solar systems, in a galaxy among hundreds of billions of other galaxies, in a universe we know nothing about. Yes, I think I see why we feel so important now. Yes, yes I see it all now.
Today it's Berserkistan, tomorrow you'll be running for president. :)
Thanks for that, Graham.
Here's a piece that's technocally a remdered model, but its shape was entirely drawn in Xara.
Attachment 114526
It's basically just and extrude, with several other pieces broken out from the shape, and thewy'r extruded, too.
So if you want to recreate this in Xara, I've attached the Xara drawing.
Um, it has no headphone jack, so you'll have to use BlueTooth.
My Best,
Gary
That's very cool Gary, thanks. You did a nice piece of work there.
I decided to have a go at doing the radio completely in Xara. I've started a new thread for my all Xara results here. I'm sure it took me a lot longer than it did you!
FYI, Frances, I did a Xara version of the radio before attempting to model it, even though it's only a bunch of extrudes.
Attachment 114561
Does anyone remember the War Band on the big cathedral radios? My grandmother on my mom's side had this huge, honking wooden radio that didn't have FM, but only AM before they called it that, and the War Band, which was reserved for any alerts or new about the Allies and the German incursions.
I used to tune it when I was about 8, and discovered interesting Citizen's Band stuff going on. I guess after VA Day, the War Band went to civilian use.
My Best,
Gary
Here's another thing yuou might to try, again, using Xara' Extrude feature:
Attachment 114563
The Xara file I used (a little, not completely) is attached and with some Copy and Pasting of attrubetsa of the Extrude tool, yuo can probably make yourself a neat office dispenser.
My Best,
Gary
Love the radio, Gare!
The tape dispenser is great too.
I've started a 1920s floor radio because of your drawing. Thanks for the inspiration!
I like the tape dispenser too Gare. I may have that a shot and see if I too can draw it.
Ron, Larry, best of luck reproducing a tape dispenser. I think all the pieces you need to extrude them are there. It's just that some way to make the dispenser itself semi-transparenct is the challenge. You might try making a vector face to the dispenser, and then extruding a copy of a hollow dispenser (make the outline an editable shape), and then make it selmi-transparent so the tape shows through, and then pt the semitransparent vector face over the top.
I did this recently (for a change!), and after using Nik's filters, I think I like the B & W version better!

I was trying here to visually explain the Right Hand Coordinate system to tell which way rotation goes in modeling 3D space.
Attachment 114782
...because I'm left handed?
No, sorry, This is the Right Hand coordinate system. You arrange you hand like this and the direction of positive rotation follws my arrows here.
I'll correct my ___-up above, thanks!

It's a nice graphic, though, isn't it? :)
Great graphic Gare!
Currently, it could be a political gesture; the blue, the red and the independents...:D
Well, here in the States, Gary Johnson is the Independent, and doesn't have much of a chance against the orange balloon and...okay, I'm getting political, and as a Mod I have to discourage that.
Attachment 114807
I guess if this thing had a title, it might be "Collaboration".
Thanks Keith and Larry!

Hi Abegail and thank you for linking the lighting on the Jestress, "Your Secret is Safe", posted a year ago.
I removed the link in your post. Our easy-to-read rules when you become a member state that no new member can post a link on their first post.

There are some really nice pieces in this thread. I had a go at the tape dispenser, I posted my results in this thread
It's a pun.
Fall. Get it?
Fall?!
Oh, never mind. Attachment 115104

REALLY beautiful and creative Gare!!!!
Thanks, Ron!
It's another example of something I wish I could go out and buy!
My Best,
Gary
I did this a while back, and wasn't sure I'd ever posted it. The "tablet" is a rendered model, and the artwork was created in Xara.
Attachment 115338
I think the idea was that after Xara Designer comes to Windows, it will come to the Mac, Linux and the Etch•a•Sketch OS.
My Best,
Gary
Thank you, Ron!
This one is from my next feature monster movie, "It Came from Fifth Avenue":

Don't read into this. It's NOT a political post.
I lie,
Gare
I was thumbing through a HD that Barbara rescued, and I found this. Poser I'm sure.

I've used the word "painterly" in several books, and never got flagged by en editor!
Actually, that's a preset I tinkered with in the latest edition of Alien Skin's Snap Art (v4), light years ahead of previous versions.

It would be nice if we had an effect like that in Xara v12.
Indeed, yes. I think the stand-alone is also and Adobe-standard plug-in, which meas if you havew the $$$, you can work with it in Xara.
This is Filter Factory, the fake HDRI preset. It took some Photoshop work to hide certain areas on a layer with the original.

There is always FotoSketcher as well. While not part of XDP, it can be used to great effect on bitmaps exported from an Xara application.
This was an experiment in color and form--I consider it melting wax.
One image is of a part of the original as created, the other one using one of the many effects available.

FotoSketcher is free.

The success of a filtered image is entirely dependent on the original image, and the eye...which knobs you twiddle to get the effect the photo needs.
Without fail, filters remove some of the original photo. If the filter works, it's because the stuff it adds is better than the source data that's lost.
I played with a photo of my brother, who did a fair impression of Teddy Roosevelt, but not perfect. So I turn it into a painting and the audience sort of forgets the falseness of the image:

THANKS Mike! I'll give it a try.
Gary,
It looks very much like T.R.. Maybe, the face could have been a little rounder? However, you know not to take me seriously!
This one is for anyone who wanted to play guitar as a kid, but your folks made you take violin lessons.
