errm, his first is a 7
I'm going with something more basic.
Mainly because I don't have Gary's skills.
I've also included the pencil icon (which Xara seem to have omitted), to indicate that it's a drawing programme as well.

An observation: On my OLD (2007) laptop with SSD the splash screen stays on my monitor for about 2 seconds. If I hadn't seen it posted here so many times, I might not have even noticed! :)
I have some background rendering going on so this will slow the load time, but I'm getting over 2 seconds onscreen on a workstation, Sandy Bridge, fair amount of RAM.
Not that statistics are worth a damn, but...

Some of the splash screens you guys have posted here are very nice! They have inspired me to create a new thread where we can all share our custom splashscreens with out the "spirited discussion" :) http://www.talkgraphics.com/showthre...Splash-Screens Not a contest, Not a challenge, just an invitation to have some fun. If you have already posted a splash screen here you are more than welcome to either post it again in the new thread or link to your post here.
If you are new to Xara and want to give this a try but aren't sure where to start I've posted a template and a step by step (it's really very simple) in the new thread.
Hey, Rik?
Skill has very little to do with your vision or your talent, or your self-expression, all of which are part of Art.
Actually, the splash screens I did earlier, compositionally, are Eye Candy. Not very descriptive of the power of the programme, but interesting to look at for four seconds while Xara loads, and tells an exceptionally simple story: the name of the software, done up "in lights" so to speak.
There's a slight difference between doing something I'm proud of, and doing something that I'm comfortable lookaing at day in and day out.
The meaning behind the design? It's very fancy wallpaper.
My Best,
Gary
Web Design Ledger has a good article on...yep, "Keeping it Simple", in product design and other things this week.
If you want to get back to K.I.S.S., it can be a humbling and educational experience...
