Re: Do you have your own website?
I copied the least couple of posts in this thread in to it's own thread, here: http://www.talkgraphics.com/showthread.php?t=29566
It was done, hoping that more people will pitch in and give their input. And that more people will get a chance to read it, learn something (or just think...) - it's a good one.
Sorry to interupt - please carry on (in the new thread (if) appropriate).

Pauland, I don't know what your problem is and why you get so defensive. For Pete’s sake, it’s just Flash.
Everybody can read that I replied to the part that said "I'd like my audience to be as big as possible,so i use javascript and flash". You then call my reply an “Anti-flash view” and “anti-flash stance”. With all respect, I think you need to do something about your reading skills.

This forum is open for guests, the other forum isn't. You're now at a point to make it impossible for some people to reply. Intentionally?
No, I don't want to become a member (yet). The fact that you have this forum that is open to guests shows that you can respect this, but now I consider this a "manipulated" guests forum.
Ever I ever had the idea to register, well... you can forget about that now.

In the context of the forum, I don't have problems. I'm just aware that many readers of your post might be put off using flash, because of the comments you made about people being less likely to visit a flash site, etc. I just wanted to express a different opinion and my take on things.
It may just be flash, but flash is pretty special in the hands of a good web developer... ;-)
As for being defensive, I actually think that we're talking pots and kettles there!

Phrases such as 'By using java and flash you will actually have less visitors.' and 'people tend to avoid sites that are heavily "flashed".' didn't make me think you were really an advocate of flash for some reason. I might have thought otherwise if you had also added in a few reasons to use flash as well.
I'll stick with my reading skills, I don't think they were far wrong first time around.

We'll try and get by. Talkgraphics is actually a pretty friendly place and manipulation is the last thing that comes to mind in how moderators work.

Paul is right. Have a nerve and come in. :)
Re: Do you have your own website?
I'm late to this conversation, but here's my two cents' worth.
I've had a web site since around 1997. My current one has just sort of grown like Topsy. Some like it and others don't. You can click on the link on my signature if you're so inclined. I seem to get a fair number of visitors.
Re: Do you have your own website?
I'm also a little late but it doesn't matter :)
I have my own "pseudo-website"... it's just a place where i can put few drawings etc. and it serves this purpose well but still it needs some work. Navigation does not even allow you to access all the contents :)
I also manage web gallery dedicated to science fiction and fantasy. This one is older but at least accessible to regular visitors :) I'm currently working on new version.
Despite current status of these sites (well partially :D ) reflect my prefences on web.
As others already mentioned - black text on white bg can be really painful. Monitor is not a piece of paper :) White on black or at least black on grey/beige feels alot better.
Small text can cause trouble but it's not easy to find optimal size that suits different systems, different users and your design. Thankfully good browsers can take care of this.
Useless animation (blogs), wrong use of flash (blogs :), big pages with lot of bloat and minimal actual content... these things are not nice.
