Re: Are people losing interest in Xara products?
As a software developer and a user, I see both sides of the coin.
Consumers want bug fixes (or no bugs) in the software that they have, and new features in the software that they purchase.
You could have perpetual fixes for software, or software with few (I didn't say none) bugs, but the consumer couldn't then afford the cost of development.
Software is quite complex, testing is quite complex and costs accummulate with every fix added, but revenue to pay for that only comes with a new purchase. Software is far more complex than a Vacuum cleaner.
There is a software development model where you do get bugs fixed - subscription, but then consumers will hold their heads in their hands at the thought of continuous payment.
Basically software that allows you to get the job done is good. If there are a few "unwanted" or "unexpected" features built in, then so be it. You probably wouldn't be able to afford the product if they weren't there.
