What an interesting and fun thread. There's been almost as many techniques as there are superb examples. I couldn't resist and had to have another go at it.

Thanks John, the shade curve method is indeed awesome. I just never thought of feeding a 'sine wave' into what is primarily an, urm, 'Gamma correction' tool really :)

I played around with creating a chrome look too. Mine does use the shade curve feature + a bevel + contour. The background was builtup with transpariencies + a fractal fill.
