Re: Help please. Make football logo spin
Afternoon all - sorry to be a pain again, I am so close to getting these holes cut out, I just need slightly more guidance!
I have managed to cut holes out of the top of the logo and keep the Liver bird in the middle, as shown below in the black silhouette image. I then select all the individual shapes, including the liver bird and the other silhouette that is separate at the top of the logo (I hope I'm making sense). I go Arrange -> Group, then I do select all, so that I select the image underneath and do Arrange -> Combine -> Intersect shapes. Unfortunately it keeps everything but the liver bird and the other shape at the top and I'm having trouble working out why, since they were definitely selected when I performed the group.
Hopefully you can see what I mean with the attached images. Any idea how I keep those shapes?
Many thanks
Chris
Re: Help please. Make football logo spin
Hi Chris
Why is there no white behind the black images round the liver bird and the other two details? - I can see right through to the page background.
Surely the logo behind that you are intersecting should have a complete white background? - are the details missing in the logo? - is so there will be no intersection there.
Re: Help please. Make football logo spin
Hmm, I see what you mean. That's what happened when I did my CTRL 2 to subtract the shape around the liver bird. Should I not have done that?

Re: Help please. Make football logo spin
I would expect that you should have a group of black shapes as on the left placed above a logo as on the right, which should look like the bottom image before intersecting with ctrl3.
If not something is wrong.
If this is not clear then need to know more details of what steps you actually took.
I would imaging something like: trace round liver and other shape to produce new black shapes- add to black group - intersect new black group and logo with ctrl3.
I don't think you need to do more intersecting than that?
Not sure why you would be using ctrl2?

Re: Help please. Make football logo spin
Well I've attached my original black outlines. The shapes are not grouped (yet). The Liverbird and other shape have been drawn round already, but they are underneath. What I understood I needed to do was draw round the inside of the shape surrounding the liverbird and CTRL + 2 that to subtract it from the image. That is how I got the outline I attached above, is this not the right way to do it?
Re: Help please. Make football logo spin
Ha! The right way is the way that works - usually more than one of those :D
Should your last post have had an attachment?
Are we still following drifters tutorial at post #7?
this uses arrange/combine shapes/intersect - which is ctrl3 not ctrl2
If you use ctrl-2 you subtract in the sense of remove[erase] what is below
So I'm not sure now what you are doing.
EDIT - ok I see the attachment now - I think Ive got what you mean thanks
Re: Help please. Make football logo spin
Yeah, I AM trying to intersect, AFTER I've subtracted the middle shape if you see what I mean.
Re: Help please. Make football logo spin
okay I think I missed a stage out - sorry
The white background - that is from the logo yes?
So if those transparent areas show through in your first post today, then the logo has been accidently included in the ctrl-2 operation?
If I have now understood you are first applying ctrl2 between the original black shape group, and the two new cutout shapes[grouped]
Try redoing this, ensuring that the logo is not included in the ctrl2 you should then get the apperance of the bottom image in my post
that should then intersect ok
Re: Help please. Make football logo spin
I see what you are getting at, but as far as I can tell, the logo is NOT included in the CTRL+2 part - the white background is part of the logo yes. I've just had a go at it again, ensuring that ONLY the liver bird and the top black silhouette surrounding it are selected, but it produces the same result. I must be missing something, or the logo must be selected without my knowing? But having said that, the black squares that indicate something is selected are not there for the logo.
Re: Help please. Make football logo spin
to verify could try this:
select logo and ctrl-x to remove it to clipboard
then do the ctrl-2 operation
paste the logo back into place from clipboard shift-ctrl-v
reposition this to the back ctrl-b
does this now look right/work?
