Re: November 2014 Video Tutorial -- The Importance of Backgrounds!
csehz -- Thanks!
stygg -- Thanks too!
Gare and mwenz -- Great tips on perspective! I've made notes of all these. The very subtle perspective added to the wall guide lines looks just right.

Thanks for kind remarks Gary and also more tips from you and mwenz, much appreciated.

Mike was spot-on with his Blend technique for creating perspective guides, thank you, Mike!

It has some issues still but just would like to post and allow it away, because by that sure will not modify it anymore so can do maybe something else :D

Tried to use around the same color world like was in the tutorial, the personal challenge was in it how to do Christmas present packs only by extrudes
Re: November 2014 Video Tutorial -- The Importance of Backgrounds!
It's a nice illustration, csehz, and to hell with perspective for a moment, because the other art qualities of your piece here far overshadow an art attribute of "correct" perspective. It's nearly an isometric drawing, the color choices are gorgeous, and the child in me wants to reach into the scene and open all the presents!
Do a Google search on Richard or "Dick Hess", who passed away more than 20 years ago but was a frequent choice to design the cover of New York magazine. See if you don't see a little of his brilliance in your work here.
My Best,
Gary
P.S. Does anyone want me to post a bare Christmas tree again this year for us to decorate as a group? Turnout last year was not so good. How about a page dedicated to your Christmas cards, or should this be in the General area of tg?
I'm afraid if I don't bring it up and volunteer, it won't happen, and I think that would be a shame.

It looks great csehz!

Either the tree ornaments or cards thread sounds good to me, Gare! :D

Well once always wanted to 'calibrate the extrude tool' somehow and in this example knowing that I used Angle2 41, Angle 52 and Angle 33 for the three extruded cubes in Xara, with my fresh Blender knowledge (Gare it is learnt from you that worth to go sometimes to 3D software! :D) tried to setup and compare the two scenes:

So if a 3D software always counts the perspective correctly, then removing the clipview on the Xara drawing the red arrows show that I slightly missed everything, however the cubes not so much but so sure the floor and the two walls :D Anyway it is definitely tricky to set the walls on the way that the both the perspective and stripes are correct

Re: November 2014 Video Tutorial -- The Importance of Backgrounds!
First of all, nice work csehz looks great. I got round to doing the flower and vase and made two images. The first one I made a bitmap copy of the background and blurred it. The second one added a linear trans. stained glass to the background.

Re: November 2014 Video Tutorial -- The Importance of Backgrounds!
They both look great Stygg. I do have a preference for the second one but it's a tough call. The blurring and stained glass transparency are both subtle and I like that. Also interesting how you curved the background.
