Re: Mark321's THIRTY LOGOS assignments
I think the two-tone wine shape would work better if the right-hand side of the reflection followed the curvature of the glass.
I'm not convinced that the arrow shape works at all. Good font choice, though.
The drop of wine works to convey motion, though...but not everyone will see that.
If an arrow is essential, it would possibly work better under the text.
EDIT:
The mock up is not working either, the glass has to be transparent.(my wife thought the wine in the glass looked like a kidney spewing blood)
needless to say, my wife says that she wouldn't drink the wine. ;)) :-O

FUNNY!!=D> I re-did the logo. I changed the shape of the reflection but, alas, I could only change the wine shape but so much as I suck at using curves (need more practice). The glass is now transparent. I feel you were right that the wine drop did a great way to communicate motion without the arrow, one too many elements.

Dang. Now, there's five colors. Had to get rid of the black in the text. And I got rid of that obnoxious white stroke around the text:

I didn't consider realism (truth) only because I had liked the "stylized" version of the glass. But I thought I'd try it your way and here's what I got:
Attachment 118247
Do you like it more or less than my last version of the glass?
I'm still not sure of how many colors I've created. I was shooting for four but I'm not sure if I have 5. And, I believe that the tilting of the glass creates an illusion of motion too.
Dang. Glass is way too thick. This should fix it:

Assignment LOGO #27
Attachment 118256 Attachment 118257
Usually people know the name of their company. But not always. This is one such company. They expected me to come up with a name and an app icon for the logo. The company uses an app to track your results of your exercise workout routines. However, this company markets to professional athletes. At first I thought of Fitbit but knew we couldn't us that because it was already taken. Then I came up with the name "In Shape" & "The Shape of Things to Come". And, finally settled on "Shape". When I was drawing the icon, I drew a heart monitor thingy with the pulsing device pulsing up and down (while moving left to right). But decided a heart monitor was not as moving as an actual heart (symbol of heart and not the atomically correct organ). I made an image of a heart that was in motion, simple transparencies made the image. The font I chose was "DayPosterBlack".
Impressions? I'm not too crazy about this image. Perhaps because I don't personally like apps. The images are too small to really have fun creating. Cons? It was hard brainstorming ideas for this image. And I chose the color purple because one of the meanings of the color purple is "Greatness". And I felt people who used this app were aspiring to greatness. Incidentally, I've been having trouble accepting the color white as a color. So, in-place of the color white, I used 5% black, instead. You see, in photography, when you edit a picture you don't let huge areas of white dominate the image or else you have this huge gap in the photo because printers don't really print any ink at all in order to produce white. Which, looks hideous in a photo. So, always print the image with SOME color at all, usually off-white (of some sort). And that's why I chose to replace white with 5% black (off-white).
I don't know what to think of this image. I'm not sure I've create something a client would like (except for the cool name). What say you?
Mark:)

Re: Mark321's THIRTY LOGOS assignments
I think your tagline is better than the logo name. "Track" might actually work as well, if not better, as the name for the logo.
It's very hot here today (33º), I have only one idea (one-track mind!) try a patterned font as a word mark. Think IBM.
The consensus here in this house is that the purple would only attract "Girly" interest, to the exclusion of half the planet.
Bob.
-
Re: Mark321's THIRTY LOGOS assignments
Track would be better. If using this or Shape the font needs to be more curvy.
If you follow Bob's bottom font suggestion, then a running track, with lanes, would be a powerful adjunct surrounding the word.

Re: Mark321's THIRTY LOGOS assignments
I would lose the red shape/white X (unless you can tell me what it signifies). I like the font, but not the curve on it. Black would be better, that red is RED.
I honestly think that the word on its own would look more powerful (and that's what you want, right).
We all know that we can do fancy and remarkable things with graphics programs, but sometimes there is no need.
It has been said many times on TG, but it doesn't lose its relevance:- "Keep It Simple, Stupid!"

Assignment LOGO #28
Attachment 118274 Attachment 118275
Fashionista is an app that lets you use your smart phone to take a picture of your clothes and then the app will find accessories at local shops to go with your wardrobe. Clever app indeed. They wanted a logo whose icon would work on an app all by itself. This one was fun and easy to make. And I used the acronym: KISS (keep it simple stupid). The lip image was originally an image from Filter Forge but unfortunately it was too detailed. So, to keep it simple, I traced the outline of it. The colors were chosen for their high fashion look that was also easy on the eyes. The client wanted two color only logo.
Impressions? Sexy as hell, especially the mockup. Love the expression and body language. Cons? Maybe the font was a little too swashy. Should I leave it as is or lose some of the glyphs?
Mark:)
P.S...Thanks for the kind words, Bob.
P.S.S...I re-did the mockup. It was off center.

Re: Mark321's THIRTY LOGOS assignments
The lips don't look so good, I'm afraid, if they were bright red and shiny, they would look like the fake lips that used to come in Lucky Bags (showing my age there).
Perhaps the colours are wrong, Mark. Why not go for something a little outlandish, purple lips, perhaps on a lilac background.* But I'm only guessing.
I don't really feel qualified in any way to assist with this. I know this is 2017, but an app to find accessories for your clothes sounds plain daft to me.
The world is definitely going mad.
* Perhaps the lips should be more pursed. From what I've seen, all young women these days are pursing their lips all the time.
Bob.

Assignment LOGO #29 (of 30)
Attachment 118299 Attachment 118300
Today's logo assignment is near and dear to my heart. I started studying motion picture photography when I was 9 years old. And I know a lot about this process. Surprisingly, I didn't stay in film only because I graduated into still photography by the time I was 16. Two days before I my 16th birthday, because of my love for photography, I landed my first job as the camera operator and floor director for the local evening newscast. I continued working in television for 8 years, working in production and in master control room. As for the logo, this client wanted a black and white logo with an icon that would be memorable. I designed the 35mm movie camera from memory not from a picture. The company is a non-profit that helps new, up-and-coming film talents.
Impressions? I think the image speaks my language of love for movie making indeed. Cons? NONE!
What do you think? Did I nail the look or not?

There's no clue as to what was required for the logo, so flying blind here.
Absolutely nothing wrong with your design whatsoever. Here's a simpler version.
I have combined everything needed in a compact design. Font used Champ Ultra. By Bob Alonso.
Edit: Here's my own mockup!

Bob, I thought of that very image as my first idea but decided it was probably something that some other student did and I wanted something more original. Love the mockup, by the way! And I even thought of using all caps too but it just felt too simple and not enough punch to the image. Plus, your text is a little too tight for me as far as spacing is concerned. Must try harder! LOL! ;)

HaHa!!! Well done, Mark, be as vicious as you like...I can take it.
I was pleased with the mockup, too. The picture was full colour originally, but given the subject matter, black & white (or even sepia now I come to think of it) seemed to work well.
Edit: Second thoughts.

Assignment LOGO #30 (the final image)
Attachment 118310 Attachment 118311
This image is nostalgic for me. We were assigned to re-create (re-brand) a logo. So, I chose my grandfather's men's clothing store. Established in 1949, in Meridian, Mississippi (USA), it was the place where all us boys grew into men. My grandfather, A.H. (Bud) Evans ran the store until he was nearly 80 years old. Bud's Men's Shop closed its doors in 1984 (I was 19 years old then). I decided to change his logo by switching the fonts. He had script for the word "Bud's" and san serif for "Men's Shop". My grandfather died in 1991 at the age of 86.
Impressions? You be the judge. Cons? Saying goodbye one more time to grandpa.
Mark
P.S...The tag line is one of the original tag lines used for years in the company's marketing.

Thank you, Bob. You are most kind. It was not easy but I never went to design school. I studied graphic design on my own and although I've taken a couple of online design classes, they were just generic (basic) stuff that I easily excelled at but I thought this Thirty Logos thing would be more SPECIFIC than some generic class. IT WAS. And I learned a lot. I've got a ways to go to catch up to Bob, but I'm willing to try! Watch out, Bob! You may have created a monster! LOL! ;)
Mark
P.S...In that last logo, the one of my grandfather's men's clothing store...I used verisimilitude. But then, I cheated, I am a master at it since I am a magician too (retired) but passing off illusion as realism is something I know a little bit of (47 years in magic).

Congratulations Mark, well done for completing all the assignments.
I signed up myself and haven't done a single one! I've learned a fair bit just by following you though!
There are some excellent logos in there, you should be proud.
Now for your next challenge (should you choose to accept it) - Create a website using Xara! Featuring a selection of these logos on a portfolio page!
No pressure, if you decide to, you know there's a few on here that can help out if you get stuck!

Thanks, sculptex. Yes, not all of my creations are winners but the progression from the beginning to the end shows a marked improvement. I think I'm gonna wait on publishing a website because I have other duties to attend to first, namely, I've got to make some new business cards with my new logo and I've got to publish my book (I promised Leo that I would) and I've got to focus on celebrating my parent's 50th wedding anniversary this month (the 29th). Much to do! But as soon as I can, I'm going to definitely publish a website, using Xara, of course!

While I haven't said so, I have followed this tread and have been impressed with what you have done Mark. It didn't seem to bother any one else but post 97 the ball cap and the pepperoni had bothered me slightly at the time. Doesn't now but the pepperoni part together with the ball cao gives the impression of a Sherlock Holmes type double billed cap at quick glance anyway.
I worked on it for awhile to show how that perceived problem(by me) could be fixed but sorry I didn't post it. Any way well done Mark. =D>
