I see... thanks for the explanation Razzle.
Rob
First of all, I want to say that Razzle make a great job and I know that it's so hard to bring some help in forum.
I just want to say that nobody cant said that it's all the same with square or buttons. And thank you, I have found how make it work with buttons (see my message : http://www.talkgraphics.com/showpost...0&postcount=25
So I have bougth ALL Xara products and I appreciate them.
But I must say that, for the moment, I create menu with rollover in seconds with WebStyle4 and in minutes with WebDesigner...
A forum is made to say what is good and what is bad, not only to send flowers...
Hey Rob,
Just to further the "#" explaination: In HTML terms, # is the character you use when you are going to specify a named anchor, like <a href="#chapter2">...which would jump to the section of the page that has the name attribute of chapter2. If that isn't found, or one isn't specified, as in the # by itself, it goes to the top of the current page.
The reason you have to have anything at all there is that the mouseover layer will only work if the object is linked to something. You could link to index, or google, a popup layer, or #, but you have to link to something for the mouseover layer to be engaged.
Hope that helps.
I learned from covoxer that you can also type javascript;: in the Link to web address field to create an active button. :)
Razzle, you have done a lot of work on this to assist other members. Great job.
I noticed a # in the link address. This is an extract from the XWD help. 'As long as the MouseOff version has a web address link, then the MouseOver version will automatically be displayed as you move the mouse over it on the web page. (The MouseOver layer must be on top of the MouseOff layer).' End of quote.
It may have been mentioned before but this is vital.
I was having a problem with the mouseover until I came to realise this point.
Also the emphasise is on another point too. Layer on top!
An abundance of patience is required in working and learning XWD (just like any other programme). But it is extremely rewarding.
Rupert
Rupert,
Thanks... Yes the effect will be there as long as you put some type of link in the properties. XWD has to know that there is a link there or you will not get the rollover effect, it will look at it as just a rectangle on the page. As cursor and john stated, you can put javascript;: in the properties and get the same effect.. I just use the "#" sign, because I like it and i'm used to it. I show people how I do things and hopefully they pick it up as I have. I do not claim to be a master at any of this, I just share what works for me....:)
Thanks to all that have received any help from my posts...:D
I want to thank Razzle publicly for all the hard work he has done to help me out. I have been having problems with drop down menus for about a month. I could not understand most of the answers that were given - possible because they have skipped a few steps or the language they used.
Razzle made a point to help me out on-line - it helped tremendously. I know I would still be writing questions and possible another few weeks would have passed before I got up and running.
Thank again Razzle for the tremendous service you and assisting me.
Sheila
Hopefully that means that all your issues are now resolved. :)
Sheila,
That was very nice of you to take the time to log back in and thank me.. That makes all the work well worth it.. I am very happy that I could help you... Happy web making and if you ever need anything, just ask...
