Re: Stop & Post June 2011
This merely a concept (1 of 4) and even then, it's a WIP.
I have been asked to create concepts for CD cover artwork for a 59 South Productions artist, Popason.
More than likely, I'm going to abandon this concept I'm just not feeling it for some reason.

I got inspired by Masque and wanted to do an impossible triangle.

I can't wait to see what you come up with, when you do start 'feeling it'.
I think it's brilliant and would guess that this is going to be the better design.
So, I for one, can't wait to see your finished product, then I can check my assumption.
For this design. =D>=D>=D>

That fire effect is outstanding. How did you create this in Xara?

Here's the deal....
The more I look at this image and work on the other concepts, the more I like this concept, it's really grown on me - ALOT!
I've shown this images to a few friends and 4 out of 5 liked the image enough to say "WOW!" when they seen it. ...something like that tends to change one's opinion.
I've tried to reach "G", the executive producer for 59 South Productions, but he's out of town on vacation. I'm going to submit my concepts to him this coming weekend. In the end, the final decision is going to be up to G and Popason himself.
So far, yes, you are correct, this design is the better design, of it's the design I've sent the most time on. Now I'm feeling it. :)

Lots and Lots of Photos and even more transparencies!!! In all honesty, I'm really surprised Xara didn't crashed during the creation of the letters with all the photos and transparencies I've used to make each letter. Inn the end, I've reduced the letters to an image and used the image to keep Xara from melting down my laptop's CPUs for the final image. Each letter has about 25-40 layers.
This is a quick run down on how I did the Fire Letters...
* Use the typing tool and type what you need.
* Convert the letters to shapes.
* Ungroup the letters so you can work with them one at a time.
* Edit the shape of each letter to give it some styling, just a enough to make them a little different than normal. (in the case of the "A" I extended the "tail" as I'm calling it).
* Continue to edit the shape of each letter just a enough to give the effect that the light is being bent (heat tends to bend lights, so mimic that)
* Color the letter with the brighter yellow of a photo of fire I used as my swatch (or palette).
* Clone the letter and color it with a darker tones of the same fire of the same photo
* Feather the cloned letter.
* Add photos of fire and flames pulled from the web (be sure to use lots of transparencies, to look as if the letter is on fire)
* Repeat last step as many times and needed or desired.
* Add a square shape to cover the same area as the letter and color with the darker tone of the flames, (same as the feathered letter) and give an elliptical transparency, move to back.
The fire of the main background was easier, it only required a 3 images of fire to create the look.
