Thanks, good stuff as always, Gare.
It's not just this site, iamtheblues. Most other graphic sites are dead, dead, dead, or gone, gone, gone. Just a few of us old goats left (speaking for myself of course). :)
I'm sure you are correct in what you say, Gray, I thought I would be more distressed than I actually am by this sad state of affairs, but I seem strangely unmoved, in fact I am pleased to be an Old Goat, perhaps I'll design an Old Goat Badge.... I imagine that younger generations prefer the instant gratification that is the ephemera of Instagram and Twitter. Let them have it, they are welcome to it.
Sign me up for one as well.:)
Crikers, I haven't posted anything in months!
Let me continue, if you please.
After getting a new machine sometime last year, as I populated it, I found I really didn't have any evocative icons that clearly told me (and possibly me alone) what clicking the button does.
So, tah-da, and all that good stuff...

If you like them (attached), feel free to use an icon utility (I use IconLover) to create your own...after perhaps editing them in XD. If there are any questions about what any particular icon represents, post your question right here. Or below right here, sorry.
I cannot vouch for this one, but here's a link to a free icon editor utility Free icon editor
Please post here if the editor sucks, okay?
My Best,
Gary

Illustrating reflective surfaces is a great pastime for artists of all skill levels, but rendering "chrome" requires two things, off the top of my head, to create a convincing scene.
1. Set up a study of the reflective scene you want to draw, for the sake of phgotorealism. There is no way, no how a human brain can calculate the reflection angles of illuminated objects from multiple angles.
2. Less if more. You'd be surprised how little actual detail it takes to simulate a reflective surface. I wanted to do a "car chrome" logo last you, took a photo of the back hatch from about 5 angles, ad surprisingly, there wasn't that much detail. Just a lot of flat color areas with a highlight here and there.
That said, I present you with a table setting.

If anyone would like to turn this into a discussion, let me know and I will post the Xara file for your perusal and we can talk about it. Actually, I did a Xara Xone video tutorial on reflections back when I hade more hair. I'll post a link when I get a moment.

nice chrome effect
human brain works by pattern recognition, as you will know.. a simple pattern is often more effective than a 'confusing' one
That is a very good example of chrome, Gare.
Thanks, Gray.
I'm inadvertently posting to two collections. I'm going to stick with this here volume 3, seeing as volume 2 is 19 pages.
Here is a hand-trace of an Art Nouveau border, good for book plates, or just your name on something. Use a cool font! :)

Free to download!
My Best,

I used the shareware Raster to turn a gradient or two into halftone dots.
My Best,
Gary
Like that!
That is so cool, Gare! Especially the halftone dots. (and the muted colours)
Thank you, Gare I downloaded the bookplate and messed around with it that is so cool, like the mug too.
You're most welcome, Larry.
I'm not offering up the Xar file for this one, because I only created it last week. I'll find other oddities I'm willing to share completely soon!

Is that a BigCrack Gary?
Attachment 129828
I'm not getting messages that there are new posts, or I would have replied earlier. Yes, and it's crackling fresh, made out of real Idaho Russet pixels. Enjoy it with a refreshing Diet Coke and really sharp and pointy ice!
You'd reverse a beak today!
Why is going silly so easy on tg? It's one of the more outstanding features!
Out to lunch,
Gary
That is one triangulated little burger. I wonder how it digests? Have you ever used Dmesh, Gary?
Actually, I did use dMesh as a starting point for the ShamBurger. However, after spending way too much quality time on how to refine, undo, and quite frankly, the limited features in the free version, I exported something close to its only vector export—PDF—and then brought it into Xara for what I guess I'd call "retouching".
My hint for all who want to use dMesh: import a relatively small file, with clear delineations between color areas. This simplifies the task for dMesh and because your product can be vector, you can scale up the result as much as you please.

My Best,
Gary
Thank you Gary, you made that crystal clear.:)
I like the art on the latest iteration a lot better than previous attempts, but being a creature of habit, I created one, all vectors and way happy with the idea that an "X" could be a disjointed set of stairs. Thanks Dali, thanks Magritte!
Attachment 129921
Why doesn't anyone do something creative with typeface choice? :(
Attachment 129925
Good ideas for the X Gare.
Nice logo, Gare!
like it too
perhaps more cecil b demille than dali or magritte but it has style
I wanted to work backwards a little bit, so in keeping with the theme colors I chose for the v18 iteration, and a solid use of typography, I drew this abstract construct based on some work in the late, great Groboto modeling program.

It's just my own idiosyncrasy, but by putting actual art examples on a splash screen, I can immediately tell when I've screwed up and loaded the wrong version. I keep 'em loaded back to Xtreme 5, because why not? Like they take up a lot of space when a 1 TB thumb drive is half the price of the program!
My Best,
Gary

This one is not my favorite.
I like it Gary, it looks very mechanical. I expect to see steam puffing out of it in places and little whirring and popping sounds.
Gray, thanks. I liked to use it because there was something "in motion" going on, regardless of whether it was my intention!
Boy, I try to avoid the reputation of continually generating hits, because I've not earned it! ;)
Here are some ideas—I didn't use them all—from past versions I saw fit to mess with.
Attachment 129946
I almost 10 years, I've tried to keep some elements consistent, those I was pleased with, natch'.
My Best,
Gary
Attachment 129945
Exactly!
PS: And to avoid any future misunderstandings, I think you are a gem :star of an artist and a gem of a TG-er! :)
I'll buy the first round.
Attachment 129952
And you're a cool cat to boot.
Me=Cat person. :)
Here's something that is almost entirely a product of beveling paths. Outside of the frame, it's all stock photo.
It's fun and immodest to put a piece of art within a catalogue photo. Makes the owners of this living room appear to have good taste.

This is a work in progress—I need to add specular highlights and fiddle with small details.
It's almost entirely made out of extrudes, how about that?
