Works fine in FF2 and Opera from here :)
OK, Finished the website. (for now)
I don't have any idea what it looks like on any other platforms.
Any feedback would be great.

Thanks
DD
Opens fine in FF2 and Opera - 1680X1050 screen so can't comment on smaller size but it'll be OK I'm sure :) One point though, the large pics opening over thumbs in the middle of the screen seems a bit overpowering to me - perhaps if all the thumbs were at the sides...? Just a thought :D
Thank you for making web site creation so easy!
Feedback is welcome. I will eventually replace my current site version made using Nvu with this version at:

Like those subtle buttons :)
Hello Laurent
Small critique with your site at sympatico. The yellow text on a grey background is very difficult to read, at least with my equipment. Old eyes, old computer but a new monitor if that's of any help.
Outside of that, site looks good, comes in fast and is easy to navigate........frank
Yes, I agree with Frank - that yellow text has to go!
Paul
Thank you for your comments.
I agree with you Frank and Paul. Any suggestion for a good highlight colour?
I appreciate the time you take to look at my site and provide feedback.
Back again Laurent
Experiment and find what you prefer most. Playing here I find a dark colour seems to work best on a grey background, possibly blue, red or dark green. I gather everybody sees things a bit different depending on their ecran so you will have to go with your own judgement. I guess that's why your paying yourself the big bucks :D ..........frank
Thank you Frank,
I have settled on bold black. I also removed the text link to download our brochure on the Contact page and inserted an animated button on the About Us page.
And oh yes, the big bucks... from my left pocket to my right pocket! ;)
Hi Laurent,
Better without that yellow!
I think your website is lacking a bit of pizazz though. I think it needs some text to really wow me into using your company - perhaps a few case studies, customer testimonials, etc.
The 'About us' section really needs some text rather than relying on people to click the glowing button.
It's pretty unusual to have a Logo on the right of a web page, simply because the place where western readers eyes settle first is the top left hand corner of the page.
Check out your competitors for some content and styling ideas!
Lastly, as a commercial website representing your company, consider (since this represents your company and will be a first port of call for many) whether using a professional designer might be a better use of resources leaving you free to pursue your customers.
Hope that helps (advice from a guy with a single page static website).
Paul
Thanks Gary for your HTML workbook.
Making website by XTREME 4.0 is much easier than my current software
and save much of my time.

Thank you Paul,
You are absolutely right on all accounts. If you put your mouse over the photos in the About Us page text about that individual will appear. Probably not a good idea if I have to explain it for people to see it. I was looking for a way to contain all the text in one page without having it say, 1200 pix long.
Hi everybody,
Long time lurker, first time poster.
Anyway, I just purchased X4 and created my first website with it. www.daski.ca
Nothing fancy, I know, but dead easy and fast.
I had some problems with the background image of the water behind the text in that I just copied and pasted it in there and subsequently wound up with 4 copies of the same image when I exported. I didn't like this, so I went into the code and manually renamed them, but must have changed something else 'cause then things got really wonky. Anyway, I re-exported and fixed it, but was wondering if there's a way to make instances of an image so that the code refers to the single image upon export.
Nice Page Slingshot.
Hi There. Not posted much before.
But I thought I'd share my work in progress website with you all. It's completely in Xara at the moment, although I'd love to be able to embed a google map.
It's for a holiday cottage we will shortly be renting out. Seems to me that Xara is absolutely ideal for a little project like this. I'm pleased with how it's turning out so far.
The idea of the design is that it matches the cottage decor - pretty simple and contemporary.
Quite a bit of the text is rough, and all the pictures, unfortunately, still reflect the look of a building site (the place is still not quite finished!), so I'm waiting for completion and furniture to be in to do the real photos. There are a couple of areas of interaction: the layout of the house and the gallery.
I'd love any thoughts, but things I am specifically worried about:
On the Layout page, the mouseovers don't always seem to work quite right (sometimes there will be two highlighted at the same time). I assume this is because my active areas are generally diamonds (although I have made sure they don't overlap). Is this effect going to cause me problems on non-IE browsers?
Any comments on file sizes? Does it take an age to load?
Is there any way to mess around with the source to embed a GoogleMap mashup on the directions page. I've got the code from google, set to be the same size as the relevant bitmap.
I tried to use a bullet from Wingdings or somesuch font on the features page (a square), but it hasn't worked. Even on my own machine where the font is installed. Do I have to use other fonts (which means a round bullet) or drawing an actual square to get this effect?
Here is the site: www.pearlcottage.co.uk

Lee
Nice one Lee :) I think you've got the design just right. Page loaded quickly. Can't help with GoogleMaps [someone here will though I'm sure], as for the mouseovers I've found that having similar names - e.g. buttonone, buttontwo, etc - can cause doubling-up and even stop the behaviour from working.
Hi Lee
I think your home page picture should be of the outside of the cottage. My eyes immediately went to the row of ? portable dressing rooms?? outhouses?? and questioned whether or not one of those was what you were renting out. :)
For your house layout you used an elevation, it gives me claustrophobia because there is only one doorway shown.
Otherwise it seems very nice
Hi Paul,
Yeah, well, you know how it is... You think you're done and then the client decides one more page would be nice... but no, he doesn't have any pics or information for you yet... Can he see what the layout will look like anyway?
Ha ha.. Yes those are the old Victorian (actually really Victorian too, Queen Victoria used to used this beach) beach huts on the local beach. I did originally have that bitmap really washed out, so it was almost white, maybe it wouldn't have noticed too much. But I think I'll replace it with a photo of the house once I get some nice ones.
This is slightly terrifying to hear - I think it would be lots of work to have to put all the doors in, with all the MouseOver layers etc. I can at least put the front door in though...Quote:

I don't think that's causing the slight MouseOver problems as the layers are called ShowerRoom, UtilityRoom etc.Quote:

But I can't really group anyway, because then the text will be turned to graphics.

Lee
You are right :o After doing a quick test can't get a pic to stick. Trying to find thread that refers to it. Sorry to mislead you. I'll carry on looking for the thread :)
**EDIT** [QUOTE]I was asking if there was a way to have some kind of "in-line" graphics [QUOTE]
I was trying to use a graphic as a footnote marker but had the same problem with text flow. And, because of a bug in the program (now fixed with the CD I think) it took a bit of fiddling to get text to act as a pop-up behaviour. Hence my confusion (not unusual!!) - don't know of a way round your bullet problem except repositioning, sorry. Somebody might though, so don't give up yet :)
You can make use of the special chartacters available via ALT+code keypresses.
For example ALT + 16 gives you this: ►
A round bullet is ALT + 0149 like this: •
An a square bullet is ALT + 254 like so: ■
Below is a list of ALT codes and the character which you can play with for use on your site.
Also listed are the Web Safe fonts (as mentioned in the Xtreme Help file under HTML section)
The same list is available online here.
Steve - Or anybody with a Mac, do these extended characters map OK in a Mac browser?
Useful list at any rate.
Hi all.
Here is a site I designed in Xara and uploaded. It is not done and needs to be optimized and tweaked more. I just wanted to show others that you can make a fairly complicated page in a very short time. This would have taken me 10 times longer using DW. It's a busy page with a lot of information.
It is meant for people that have already seen an 30min infomercial so they are (hopefully) pre-sold.

I have question before I go any further with this. There are more paged to be added and one is much longer than the ones I have so far. Can I change the length of one specific page? When I change the length (options>page) they all change.
Tom
Here is my 1st entire site www.maulbetsch.com
the second link "tree service" will show an image out of place... I don't know why?
the error repeats...
I now know that I need to make the images smaller for it to load faster...
Thanks for your input...
Gary, yes :)
You can install SAFARI for Windows to test your pages for Mac'ompatibility
It's the browser that enterprets the HTML code for the ASCII extended character code.
Stick to ARIAL for the ALT characters, format your text to the font you need.
Have a look here for HTML equivalents to the ALT+num key presses
There is a registry setting you can manually edit to disable all pages being the same.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Xara\XtremePro\4.0\Opti ons\Preferences\AllPagesTheSame
Or I have created easy to use executables to do this for you.
See the XaraXone Shareware page for this and other Xtreme 4 hacks.
(or see alternative link in my sig)
The two you need for this are:
AllPagesTheSame-OFF.exe
AllPagesTheSame-ON.exe
*The usual caveats apply when editing the Windows registry
Charles,
It's pretty outrageous that people are having to patch the registry to do this kind of thing. I can't really understand why it's allowed to continue.
I don't really see why this should even be a registry entry since for some documents you may want all pages the same, yet for some others you may not.
Paul
I agree, and especially now with the new web creation features, people will use this software more for website design. More than not you will deal with different size pages in a multi page website.
