Painted Vase complete with Rose.....for Parahandy
since I have never been able to draw a rose b4, this rose is extrapolated from Molucca's beautiful photo of a rose which he has displayed in the Non-Xara Gallery in his thread "Tenth"---used with permission
nance
Beautiful, Twidder. Beautiful!
yes indeed it is. Is the vase the blend again. Something tell me no but it also tells me you are trying to imitate the blend...whatever....I like it
thankyou Bob and Seagull (great to have you back on the vase thread--seabird!:))
this vase is soley painted; no blends. used the familiar vase shape and freehand painted the marks on the shape. the rose took a different path. for the bud and leaves used first gradient linear fills and then added additional freehand painting on to that.

Now there's a rose that will not fade drought or no drought. We don't have droughts in this part of Scotland only slightly less rain now and again.
Anyway thanks for the rose Nance and the vase and best of all the thought.
Geeze, what's the old man talking about now, babble, babble, babble. Your always loosing me with your quotes of poetry Norm, just way, way too deep for me. I though you were talking about beer with your drought....don't you call it a drought of beer???????.....and don't forget, you have to explain to me what a Parahandy is so I can explain to my daughter. I'm hoping it's something nice but with you Scottish people, who knows.......and that's right, you haven't drawn a bottle of scotch yet, have you. Now look who's babbling and I'm not finished yet. Look whats coming.
Hi Nance. love your rose. Know what it reminds me of? A tulip. No, not a tulip, THE tulip......the tulip in the complex fill movie.......so I've downloaded your file, hopefully with your permission and am going to replay that movie while working on your rose. I will not post my results because I am afraid Parahandy (the dirty old man) will misinterpet my motives, which are learning how to draw a tulip/rose. Or wait a moment, if it's good I guess I could post it but I will dedicate it to Norm....that should seriously confuse him.jj By the way, sorry about the xara crashing Nance. If it's any consulation, that message has been no stranger in my computer either. Never had this problem with xara or xaraX but the trade off is the ability to use plugins now so I am not going to complain. Another thing that happens here is sometimes xara eats all my memory and I end up with just a blank window and the only way to get it down is through ctrl / alt...del.
Sorry Norm, being teasing you something terrible this morning but I feel great. It is a beautiful, beautiful day here, temperature 10 deg C., all the greens are fantastically green, the birds are singing, seagulls are in the air, saw three ocean goers, one going...maybe heading towards you Norm, or Popeye, and two coming, maybe heading for Nance or Bob, one sailboat and hardly any traffic as I walked the dog. Ahhhhhhh, life is great this morning. How can people like Gary even think of living in that drab, hot place down there. Personally, I need the green and the blue of which we have in abundance or I start getting depressed. Wish me luck on the rose everybody........Frank
Good luck with the rose everybody:pQuote:

The rose will be for norm maybe, I guess the leaves will have to be for Popeye. Must remember, draw lots and lots of needles on th them. Glad your up already. Don't you ever go to bed?
Only for things unmentionable in a G rated environment.:pQuote:

Parahandy is the skipper of an old boat a Clydeside Puffer called the Vital Spark in a television series. In my theme "a life on the ocean waves" you will see the Vital Spark as drawn by
Albacore. Just type in "search "vital Spark and take it from there.
Good luck on the rose, watch out for the thorns you may prick your finger and fall asleep for 100 years as in The Sleeping Beauty, no danger there as far as beauty goes.
Hope this is OK of a Gull rated forum. It is just a little thorny. Rich
VERY NICE, Rich!!!!!
Wow, nice branch. Now if we can just convince Popeye that it's spinich, we can sit back and have a laugh as he tries to eat it. A bit sadistic but so is laughing at the three stooges.Quote:

As for Norm, maybe it's draught where your are with your funny accent and drought a bit further to the south, whatcha think?
And Nance, the computer has been open for 8 hours now and so far I have drawn one pedal between the comings and goings. Trouble is, I started with the top pedal so it will end up on the bottom so when I finally get back to it I better start creating layers to move it to the top. And if you think starting with the uppermost petal was stupid......naaaaaaaaa.......not for me, business as usual
we can always count on Rich to come up with the real thing:)
hey-- seabird. I forgot to 'feather' together the parts, so there's a clue to make it nicer than mine;).....I'm sure Alice will appreciate it
nance
Hm I could be the three stooges rolled into one.Quote:

YES YOU DID! You were supposed to age the photo and you burned it, Niiiiice guy. I gotta leave youse guys (youse covers both male and female versions out there) cause I have to go to the fire department in a few minutes, but Nance, I am going to leave the rose to my little goyle, she's very capable. And if you want to write to her, you will first have to put some japanese drawings on your vase, otherwise you probably won't get her attention.Quote:
Okay I burned some drawings
Well I was gone drinking for the weekend. I see that Egg said it is ok so I will have to upload the file tonight when I get home and post his tutorial there all. Only at 31Mg it might take a while for you to download depending on your connection.
"gone drinking for the weekend" - boy, could that use some enlightenment - at least a wee little tale about it???????
I did age the photo, and the pendrawing I burned wasn`t ment for aging.Quote:

Hmmm you can put out the drawing too when you are there.:)Quote:

Seagull-- Norm is the one who specializes in the japanese art stuff!
There's a nice guy for you. Burns pictures by accident (my eye) and then puts me down to boot, wouldn't hurt so much except it's true. And Nance, don't let Norm intimidate you just because he thinks he's an old captain....try and draw something japanese and I guarantee you a friend for life. She is drawing japanese cartoon characters all the time, extreamly well I might add. I left her with the rose but I don't know where she got with it since I just got home and apparently the computer crashed on her.......Nope, just talked to her in bed and she lost the works when the computer crashed. Guess it's up to me.....gdnight for now.......frankQuote:

Just came back from the rose thread
Ohhhhhh, nice.....That's a quote from Onslow in the British show "Keeping up Appearances"Quote:
(the vase thread has gotton a bit chaotic )
your asking me to just switch to japanese style?? oh, seabird you don't know what your asking. never tried it. always wanted to--and will get to it, but not NOW
Mr Norm is a great guy. really great guy--at least when he's not hanging out with all you dudes. quite the gentlemen he is and I have a soft place for him:) he really got going on some very fine oriental style art. he's your 'go to' man right NOW. I been putting in HOURS, blood, sweat, and tears on my new vase
Oh ya it was a wild night Friday , at the local bar. There was a great Rock band, and the bouncer had to throw out about 8 people. Then after the band was wrapping up 2 of the bartender girls walked out and quit their jobs. Then I asked the bartender for my tab and she couldnt find it. This all happened over the course of 6 pints of beer, an Irish Car Bomber, and 2 shots of Patron , Tequila. Woo hoo, then slept most of the day Saturday and went back for more of the same Saturday night, another great band. Only they had my tab from the night before waiting for me. Then slept most of the day on Sunday...anyway some enlightenment for Bob. :)
Here is a link to the zip file that contains Egg's great little tutorial. it should work but might take a while to download. It took me about 10 minutes just to upload to my server. There are 3 files in the zip. You can extract them all to the same place on your drive, then just open the html file .
http://artist4hire.net/temp/vase.zip
I will leave this here for a day or so, then maybe everyone can get a copy.
Thanks Egg.
Bruce
Thank you very much for that. Tell the Barman I'll pick up your tab
Thanks bruce and Eric Download only took one&half mins this end.
Thanks Eric for the wonderful tutorial.
Thanks Bruce for the opportunity to get it. (Took 1 min. 14 sec.)
Thanks Bruce for the story - I can now live vicariously through you. Sounded like it was a blast.
Morning Nance
Haven't advanced to far on the rose yet. I know I will not do a better job than the one you have posted but it really did remind me of the tulip in the complex fill movie and that is the reason I want to play with it and I am getting my daughter involved so it is a good project. May take days or weeks the way things are going but if and when it is done, we will post it here.....might even include a vase to keep with your thread.
I agree, Norm is with the best of them even though he does lower his standards and hangs out with us but my daughter already likes the old man so it won't get better than that. She is not supposed to be here but keeps sneaking in while I am not around. She started doing this looking for my posts but has now started ignoring me and is now running after you guys & gals...you can see where the brains in the family stopped (me) and started again (her)
Before leaving....thanks Bruce, I also downloaded the zip file. I am supposed to be on a high speed line here but it took over 5 minutes. Probably the computers fault
Im glad that the download worked. I will leave the file there for while still so anyone else can get a copy.
As folks seem to like these video tutorials I've created a couple of smaller ones and placed them in the 'Xara Tips & Tricks' forum.
Great egg, it's really great you taking so much of your time and effort to creat these videos for the mass. You may have noticed we took your advice and started a thread about no thread for the silly boys and girls and have already managed to insult somebody without a single post..........who says life isn't great. Wonder what we can do if we try, which we shalt cause we're silly, not bad.......I still owe you a guinness, intentions on my side are good, collecting on your side are not quite as rosy.......frank
Thanks Egg, i'll have to check that out.
Just checked them both out - that's great!!! Thank you!!!!!
HELP HELP Help
yes, leave it me to have the problem. first time on forum today and can't find BRUCE'S file of Egg's tutorial. can someone please give me a clue:) :p
nance
hahahaha, twidder, it's THIS thread, go back one page..... :)
now Shifty Drifty boy -be nice....I'll go back and LOOK
oh. he put a url in.:o ;)
I've been looking at free video web sites. I've uploaded the vase vieo here.
Unfortunately the size of the video is limited. Is this viewable in your opinions?
(Bruce) appears this dnld won't be done till after 11pm
it is bout 8:30pm my time. I am currently downloading from Bruce's link and it is about only 1/3 finished. a LARGE download-time for me....
Bruce thankyou for making this available:)
Egg, won't have chance to check out the new link you've got till tomorrow cuz of this download
nance
Egg, it shows up well on my LCD display.
Cheers Bill. The limit of a video seems to be 425 x 350 pixels, which doesn't really allow much screen real estate after you've included the tool bars etc.
However I think it's a good compromise that gets around the file size and bandwidth problems that I would have if I hosted them on my site.
