Hello Barb, Welcome to Talkgraphics! :) I agree with Rik, very nice drawing.
Sure you can, Barb! You can be anything you want to be but you can only be one person, yourself. But I suppose you meant my artistic skill. Sure, it's all yours for the taking! Just draw and doodle and have fun and observe others stuff that you like and want to learn from. Why reinvent the wheel when there are those around you doing stuff you like? Figure out how they did and what it is that you like about it, then try to recreate it. You'll learn lots along the way.
Good advice Zeb. I know when I was delineating we all learned from each other. If I saw something I liked I remembered and tried to do maybe one little part of it. If I liked it I remembered it and if I didn't I promptly for got it. Eventually those things built up in my memory bank and skills. It wasn't copying just building up techniques that became my mine, by that I mean I would put my own twist on it and made it useful to me.
First you learn the rules then when you become proficient you can successfully break the rules. It's all part of learning your chosen craft.
Aw, thank you Rik and angelize. I'm hoping to learn lots and lots from all you talented souls.
I was introduced to Xara by ... ta da! Gary Priester. I bought one of his CoreDraw books at Half-Price books and looked him up on the Internet to tell him I was a fan. Wow, was I in for a treat. We 'talked' software, and that's where I learned about Xara. I was impressed with the graphics I saw created with Xara, and download the full trial. Alas, I could not afford to purchase the Designer Pro 7, so I got the Photo and Graphic Designer 7 instead (on sale, no less). I miss the advanced features, but, who knows? Someday, I will upgrade. Sad to see Gary stepped away from the XaraXone.
Gary Priester has stepped away from the Xone, but he is still here at TG, and Gary Bouton, the new host of the Xone will keep us supplied with lots to learn and enjoy!
More of my silliness. Recycled an image I had laying around for the photo. lm not happy with the layout yet and maybe never will be.

Our publisher of our next book came up with the first design (black type on a green background) as part of the cover design.
I asked if we could submit some designs. Not that it will do any good, but it never hurts to try. These are four of my designs.
My favorite is #3 (eye.tricks.2.png).
Same here.
