In fairness to the company I wanted to update this thread and let you all know that they did indeed reply to me today and offer to refund the money that I spent on the new version. I declined their offer, but it was made---even though it was well over a week later, you should know that they did respond in the end.
Thank you all for your help. I've enjoyed meeting you and will be sticking around the forum.

My best guess is that I will end up buying the product again and hoping that I don't have any issues, since support and communication seems lax at best.
