Thomas, I seem to have started all this because when I visited the Xara logos page on the Xara website I ended up at www.xara.com/support/logos not www.support.logos/general as in your link. The logos page does not contain any logos and it was not obvious to me that I was supposed to follow the general link to the logos/general page. The logos page does contain the following advice -

quote:
SO that you can help spread the word about Xara, we have gathered together a number of banners, buttons, logos and screenshots for all our products.
You are free to use these graphics on web sites or in printed material, as you see fit.
Using the Xara logos & graphics
To download the graphics, right-click on the banner you want, then select Save Picture As... from the menu. Insert the images into your web page and link them through to www.xara.com.

I took this to mean any of the logos published on the website, since I had not stumbled upon the page with the rather nice logo collection. However, all of the logos on the site (other than on the page I didn't know about) are either non-transparent or anti-aliased against the wrong colour background. So, I posted my message and as you can see the response has been overwhelming. Is there a problem?

I don't think it's that at all... I think it's about having some fun and when a person is proud of the site he/she did, they might want to tell the people how much fun creating the graphics for the site was ... in thier own way. I see it as good free adverts for you too.
I also think it's great opportunity for Xara to encourage this sort of thing. A small contest like this can only mean win/win for Xara ltd, anyway.
This is by far the best (and friendliest) forum i've come across. All feel welcomed and encouraged to pursue X at thier own pace. With the likes of Gary, Ross, Ivan (bless his soul) and scores of others ... you can't beat it. So, if i'm reading you right, what's wrong with having a little fun ?
All the best, Wayne

Xara X stamp.
As others have pointed out, there isn't anything 'wrong' with the logos on the Xara site. As one of those people that fell in love with Xara X, we truely enjoy using the program and sharing our discoveries (good and bad) about how the program works.
We also enjoy stretching our creativity and encouraging others.
This forum and the Xara Gallery are my favorite places to visit on the internet.
Time to get down off the soap box and finish this post.

The XAR file containing the above image and the image I posted earlier is attached.

The idea of the stamp below was to use the figure on the Xara splash screen which I couldn't find (or screen capture) so my apologies for "temporarily borrowing" from the gallery.
A stamp of approval by any other name or face ....

Actually, I think it's great that there is an informal contest being run on logos. Some of these are fantastic. Keep up the good work. Who knows, perhaps even one or two will be nominated to "offical Xara logo" status.
My question on the logos already on the xara.com site related more to if there are any technical problems with them (as you say, anti-aliased to wrong background, non-transparent, etc.). If so, we need to take a closer look at them and rework them if necessary.
Can't wait to see more logos! :-)

The problems I have with the logos on the Xara site are -
The text on all the logos on the 'general' page is Xara Graphics. What I would like to do is give credit to Xara for producing the best graphics program in the world. But if I use an image like
http://www.stopscreaming.co.uk/images/test1.gif
it looks like I have outsourced my artwork to a design company called Xara Graphics.
The Xara X logos page does not contain any button graphics at all. The Xara logo is designed for a white background so does not work to well against a different colour. For example -
http://www.stopscreaming.co.uk/images/test2.gif
The only other transparent Xara logo I can find is anti-aliased against a white background so does not work at all well against a darker web page. For example -
http://www.stopscreaming.co.uk/images/test3.gif
And finally there are no animated 'created with' stamps (I seem to have inadvertently introduced some new terminology here - even I'm starting to use it now ).
It looks to me as if this contest idea can only produce benefit for Xara - there have been a number of very creative entries already.

Hi Thomas,
Its my feeling the issue is that the logos are bitmaps. I wish they were .XAR vectors then there would be no issues from the user's point of view.
Legally, for Xara, there probably is though. But a Guide Sheet specifying that the shape, character spacing, color of the logos could NOT be altered ONLY the relative scaling could be changed might resolve the issue.
I had to trace the bitmap logo included in the Xara directory on my harddrive, color it, and add the a drop shadow for the logo shown on the "stamp" picture above. It's the only way to get a good clean imag

This is fun...
Scanning effect?...
Since I'm not very familiar with all the possibilities offered by Xara, I probably made errors or complicated the creation process of this animeated gif.
Here goes my second attemp.

I like the idea of showing a little bit of the process.
