Re: trial won't install_ windows web installer error
Again today no reply from the support team!
Here's the log files from the installer and from Regmon/Filemon:
Attachment 85557
Please have a look at the files.
BTW, the same error happens on my notebook as well! Xara can't be installed there also
Re: trial won't install_ windows web installer error
I have had issues with these flavors of error messages before under XP and under Windows 7 Ultimate x64. This is how I fixed my issues:
First, uninstall the program at hand.
Second, once done, reboot, THEN run a GOOD registry cleaner. What is happening is that EVERY time you uninstall a program there are remnants of the said program still residing in the memory. i.e. - DEAD registry fragments from the program clean your registry. (Note: A restore point will not help if there were already errors within the registry to begin with BEFORE the restore point was created!) Reboot the computer to refresh the newly refreshed registry.
Third, try reinstalling the Windows Installer (current version I think is 4.5, st least that is what I found) here. Reboot.
Fourth, try reinstalling the program again.
Some how. These error messages come up because sometimes if a registry is not cleaned of erroneous errors on a daily r weekly basis the registry hives can become extremely unstable. Just the other day I had issues with my USN journal file and Auslogics BoostSpeed found it and prompted me to do an unmounted volume chkdsk scan upon rhe next reeboot of my Windows 7. It took six hours but it was fixed. >:)
I run an ASUS Intel Core2 Duo N90Sv notebook with Seagate drives with close to 4TB of hard drive space in use and Auslogics BoostSpeed has done me justice. I will not trust my registry to any other program because most seem to leave their "mark" within the hives of the registry where BoostSpeed does not. I am have NOT will NOT and could NOT if I tried to work or even sell Auslogics BoostSpeed. I just found out long ago that if I wanted to speed up my 'puter and keep it from crashing AND having install issues (and after a hell of a lot of reading, mind you) cleaning the registry was less of a headache than to reinstall a fresh copy of Windows (XP or otherwise) and not have a computer for the next ten hours or so while I reinstall everything and reconfig it as well. LOL!
My three cents worth anyway...
Cheers!

Re: trial won't install_ windows web installer error
I get this same problem on three different PC's. Today I installed XP fresh from ground. Same problem, same error messages.
I can't believe how terribly broken this bloated Xara/Magix Installer (and/or copy protection mechanism) is.
I have paid for this program but can't use it!
Re: trial won't install_ windows web installer error
what did xara support say?
Re: trial won't install_ windows web installer error
They say to re-install Windows Installer (did that with no avail) and/or to remove the Windows updates KB981669 and KB958655 :banghead: (can't do that anyway since they are years old already).
Anyway, since I get this error also on a virgin XP install, it must be a problem on their side! There's also lots of results if you search the web for problems with Magix installs.
The creators of the wonderful software of Xara should have never sold their soul to this grungy Magix company in the first place!

did you zero your hard drives [or use replacement ones] and remake your boot sectors?
I'm not recommending you should do this you understand [because it could remove things that are required or even essentail] but it may be that if it is a magix activation copy protection issue the program may be still recognising the HDD signature even after reinstall of XP
maybe you need to ask magix support rather than xara ?
Re: trial won't install_ windows web installer error
Without wishing to cause a ruckus, logic would suggest if someone has the exact same problem on multi machines, yet no-one else does, then the problem is not the software he is trying to install, but his own habits. Someone with multi machines is very likely to setup and configure them in the same way. So, something he has set/installed/done on all machines which he assumes is benign, it in fact the culprit. At least, is more likely to be.

Re: trial won't install_ windows web installer error
could be because in the translation in post #11 the bit about secure mode was missing ['Sie Windows im abgesicherten modus ausfuhren'] so that has only just beeen picked up by me - I don't have technical German, I dont know exactly what it means, let alone a fix - but could always try the old right click and install [run] as administrator - what do you think?
Re: trial won't install_ windows web installer error
I think that's a sound procedure :-)
