I already do a certain amount of this in my normal work-flow. Not so much because stuff is missing per se, but because Xara hasn't updated many of its export (and import) filters for some time. And so when it is required I return an AI file, I need to often enough stop drawing before certain effects are included and port to AI to finish off.
As regards crop marks and Montax? Nah. I do use Montax Imposer for what it is meant for, but crop marks isn't one of those things.
I have upgraded to the new version every year (but one) so it doesn't seem that the money is that different. I do not like that without renewing you loose access to the content catalog. In that aspect the new model penelizes me. Overall not so impressed.
I use Xara Designer Pro X9, and will continue to do so. The fact that Xara is now a) a subscription based license and b) REQUIRES internet access (something that not all of us are able to use all of the time) has pretty much put me off buying any more Xara software.
only online designer requires internet access all the time
that said I am unlikely to go any further than ver12, given that what I need that it cannot do, is mostly covered by other programs such as Affinity
It is not a real subscription. Please read all about this on the Xara or Magix web site. It is just that you get everything up to when you last purchased plus a working preview of everything new for the next year. The program keeps on working if you don't renew. If you have to reinstall an expired version, it only installs what you had when you last purchased - exactly like what you have now. You just make sure that you have downloaded and squirreled-away all of the on-line content up to the end of the 365-day period. Other than many new features that you could probably use, the one huge difference between now and what you have (X9) is that you get access to all of the content. With your version, you have to purchase most of the websites and other features, is this not true? Now, they are all included. Right now, you are penalized.
As has been mentioned many times, if you don't feel that the new features that have come out since you last purchased/renewed, then don't upgrade/renew. This applied before, and it still applies.
Lastly, please everyone, it is "lose" not "loose." If you let your dog run loose, you may lose it.
this I will agree with... guilty though I am occasionally as spelling is not my string pint
the rest is the corporate line, which john bless him, is fond of quoting - there are other ways of looking at it, and they have also been flogged to death.. you only have to read the thread[s]
the squish issue in ver15 has really killed it for me - it's obvious the way the company is really going...
I am aware that it is a quasi subscription. My understanding? that the program continues to work but access to the online catalog ends if I don't renew my subscription? I am pretty underwhelmed by the skip/jump to ver 15. I was expecting something really outstanding.
Yes, i do realize it is lose and not loose as I typed. I couldn't figure out how to edit my post to correct it after I hit post.
"It is a damn poor mind indeed, that can't think of at least two ways to spell a word"
two ways to pronounce too accross the atlantic 'aluminium' being a good case in point...
there should be an edit buttton below your post, but it goes away after a short while...
"When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean—neither more nor less."
