I ask to change the foil – no answer from Wacom. So I tried it with an aftermarket foil, It's a little bit better but the responsibillity is whorse.
I think ist time to buy a new one, the old one is from 2010.

Re: Albrecht Dürer and my passion for woodcut art
I agree hard tips are good for fine detail
Just recently I have made a concious descision to bite the bullet and pencil a lot more digitally - this means a very soft and gentle response from the pen in order to build up the lines [see my current avatar] and a felt tip has the tooth/drag/inertia call it what you will, that facilitates this
but that aside hard tips have always been too 'fast' for me, even for inking
looks like this one is nearly done :D

Oh yeah I do. With the shape-painter-tool it's fiddy to got the right stroke. For somme things I need several attempts to got the right stroke.
But that is o.k. for me.
So long Xara don't quitt is all good.

Re: Albrecht Dürer and my passion for woodcut art
You're doing the work of a monk, Ernie. I'm impressed!
-
Re: Albrecht Dürer and my passion for woodcut art
Yaeh Boy, this is not that of Art how it looks, it's hard work.
In the tradition of the monks who brewed beer in their monasteries – I prefer to drink it.
-
Re: Albrecht Dürer and my passion for woodcut art
I have heard of art being produced for it's own sake, but beer needs drinking :D

You sound as if you already had a few.... ;))

Re: Albrecht Dürer and my passion for woodcut art
probably 20,000 or more... but of course it depends when you are counting from ;)

Re: Albrecht Dürer and my passion for woodcut art
It's looking great Ernie, I think you are making good progress. I can really see the detail in the document information screenshot you posted.
I think, probably like Egg, I have quite a light touch using a Wacom tablet. Despite a fair amount of use, I rarely have to replace nibs. I can imagine though with this woodcut simulation technique, it must pleasing to have a surface texture to draw against.
----
I don’t think I’ve knowingly tried true Bavarian beer (yet). I’ve just been reading about the different types. They sound very refreshing, but quite different to the beers I usually drink, which are generally warm, dark, full bodied and complex with a sweet and fruity character!!! :D

Re: Albrecht Dürer and my passion for woodcut art
@ Jonopen: you should try some varieties of Bavarian beer.
At my last job in Ireland 2018, I was in Ballycroy County Mayo for a week. In the evening, I went to the pub with friends and enjoyed Guinness.
On the way home I had been in the airport for about an hour.
In a beer pub I had the opportunity to taste some British beers and all the beers I tasted where good to verry good.
The German prejudice British beers would taste like cat’s piss I can’t understand.
And here is the next progress, enjoy!
Attachment 129332Attachment 129333
BTW I bought a new Drawing Tablet, not a Wacom but a cheap Chinese Huion.
What may I say: for this price it's miles better than my old Wacom.
It has 8191 pressure points and 5080 LPI pen resolution.
The Wacom has 2000 pressure points and only 2400 LPI pen resolution. At the time I bought it, it's cost 1080,- €.
For the Huion I pay only 56,- €.
O.K. its smaler then the Wacom but with the double resolution it's more accurate and I have more space on my desktop.
I drew 3 days and the nib is like new. No abrasion.

Re: Albrecht Dürer and my passion for woodcut art
Amazing work Ernie !
I also love Durer's work. And German Beer. And British beer. Just not the Italian one, no offense.

Re: Albrecht Dürer and my passion for woodcut art
In May of this year I started working for a new publishing house. Since then, I haven’t had time to work on the drawing.
Since a week I have started drawing again, only half an hour in the evening to relax. And here’s the next step:

I continued to experiment and refine my technique. Some examples:

From the last drawing I made a nyloprint cliché and printed the vector reproduction on a letterpress machine.

I wanted to see if I hit the woodcutters in any way. As you can see from the macro shot, this has been achieved.

Since I have some time at the moment, I decided to do a new woodcut by Dürer. The master class, so to speak.
Every spare minute I’m going to draw on this work and share it with you. Whenever something new comes in, I’ll put it here and you’ll see the progress.
So here is the first part of my new project. Maybe one or the other already realizes what it is. Have fun!

Great work ernie, you are without a doubt one of the many on TG whose work I am in awe of.

Really enjoying watching this come to life. It looks like the end is approaching, although I suspect there’s a lot detail in the next section.

Re: Albrecht Dürer and my passion for woodcut art
Again: Thank you all for the kind words. This will me push up to finalise the drawing.
And yes you said it: the last part is that one with the most details. This would be a hard part to draw but I never give up. Stay tuned for the next progress.

How do you ensure such consistancy over the image that takes so long to produce? Awesome!
-
Re: Albrecht Dürer and my passion for woodcut art
You are a patient man, ernie f. Looking wonderful.
-
Re: Albrecht Dürer and my passion for woodcut art
@ handrawn: yes on snout is in German not that what is intended.
@ Larry and Egg: thanks!
@ Gray: yes passion is needed, like in your fantastic drawings of planes, cars and so on …
Thanks guys for the kind words.
Greetings from Bavaria
