Over the last two days, I've been reflecting on Bill's superlative contribution to the Xara/TalkGraphics community. While his knowledge, skill and willingness to help have been among the highest, his reliable evenhandedness was an expression of the ideals of the community to an extent that's almost unmatched. That's the biggest part of the hole he leaves as he moves on.
Some years back, Bill posted a self-portrait of himself as a Native American. I was already aware that that heritage was an aspect he was exploring, so I accepted the drawing as a truthful reflection of his physical appearance. Over the years, I've persistently pictured him as resembling the portrait even when it's been contradicted by photos I've seen since that time. It seems that while that self-portrait may not have been an accurate physical reflection, it was a truthful representation of his soul.
Rest in Peace, Soquili. We'll miss you terribly.

I am so very sorry to hear about the passing of, Bill. He was one of the best. Condolences to Bill's family.
I am really saddened by his passing. As stated over and over he was indeed kind, helpful, encouraging and a gentleman. His even guiding hand gave this forum a much needed stability.

So very sad to hear about Bill, a true xara legend who was always on hand to offer advice and most importantly words of encouragment to us newcomers, I have read a lot of the posts Bill made as I loved to see what he would post, so deeply saddened by this news. My condolences to Bill's family and my prayers and of all the people at our office are with his family and friends, God bless.
Bill will be missed by all who knew him or even acquainted with him. He was a very kind soul.
My deepest sympathy to his family and friends.
I'm grateful for Bob's help and patience over the years. Top bloke, as we say over here.
R.I.P Bill - sad news at this time of year - didnt really know you but I knew of you which says it all - thoughts go out to all your family and friends at this sad time - I hope someone has "Uploaded" a copy of Xara up to the heavenly place you now reside :-)
You will be missed fella !!
What sad news. Bill was such a kind and generous person, and has helped me so much over the years. He seemed to be awake 24 hours a day! He was always there when you needed a tip or a trick, or just some motivation. He knew Xara inside out back to front and all the way around, and yet he was very modest and open to the ideas of others.
My condolences to Bill's family. It will not be easy now. But I hope that knowing the affection in which he was held here, and the respect he commanded, will offer some comfort. We are all thinking of them.
To live in the hearts of others is not to die.
Sending my love,
Ali
Just happened to see the news.
My condolences on the loss of our dear Soquili. He was a tireless helper to all of those in the Xara community.
You might be gone, but there's no chance that you'll be forgotten!
Rest In Peace, Bill
James
I would like to add my condolences to Bill's family. May the family find comfort in the reflections on how Bill touched the lives of so many in this online community. May he rest in peace...

That's sad news. I'll miss him. :(
My sincere condolences to Bills family. Bill was a great guy and personally helped me out on more than one occasion when I got stuck trying to do something in Xara. He would write me personally and was always the first to respond--a true good Samaritan! He will be deeply missed by all of us here on the forum.
Post 51 above has the funeral home's URL and an online guestbook.
I can think of no better, lasting tribute to Bill and his memory than writing a little of your experience with him, just so his sister and mother can see it.
Neither of them are "computer people", and they were fairly unaware of his status on TalkGraphics. Our Administrator called his sister and tried to explain, but try explaining television to someone who has never seen it.
I believe Barbara is going to send hard copy of this thread to them next month.

Bill was a true spirit of helpfulness and kindness to everyone here... We will dearly miss Bill. He truly was one of a kind.
Bill you will be sorely missed.
I'm sure you will be helpful wherever you are.
Your spirit lives on!
Sorry to hear this; very sad. Hope his family are OK. His legacy input and support for the forums and elsewhere will remain for future visitors to benefit from.
I am so sad to hear of this. My deepest sympathies go to Bill's family. As Gare mentioned Bill is happy now and at peace with the creator. And as Gary stated Bill was part Native American, as am I. Soquili and I hit it off right away as friends. Soquili is the Cherokee word for horse and Bill told me he got his name because he liked the horses or used to talk to them, something like that. I believe the post is here in the forums somewhere. Soquilis warm heart and kindness touched all of us here, a son, brother, father, a true member of the family.
Cherokee Prayer Blessing
May the Warm Winds of Heaven
Blow softly upon your house.
May the Great Spirit
Bless all who enter there.
May your Mocassins
Make happy tracks
in many snows,
and may the Rainbow
Always touch your shoulder.
Well said, Bruce. Bill is irreplaceable. Farewell, friend.
Bob.
Indeed this is sad news, and more so this time of year.
My thoughts and prayer are with his family, and I'll fondly remember his comments and help in the past.

How sad. What a shock.
He was such a nice and helpful fellow.
Condolences to his family.
Sad news. Rest in peace...
I would like to send my Deepest Sympathy to Bill's family and friends.
Bill was a good friend to the people of Talking Graphics forums and he will surely be missed. He went out of his way to help people, and when he wrote his answer you could expect it to make sense, which made learning a lot easier. Even the most challenging of questions, he was able to answer them all in a quick and timely manner.
He seemed to know an endless amount of things connected to the different programs that we use on our computers, and with Bill's help, we got the most out of the products.
Even when he wasn't well, his dedication in helping people shone through. He was at the forefront of helping a small group of people, including me, with a new project to create the first free font for anyone to use anywhere in the world. It wasn't a simple task yet Bill made it easier with his skills and finesse as a computer programmer.
I was really shocked to read the article about Bill he was too young to go. I will miss Bill he was a super-man and such a nice person.
Bill, may your spirit roam in green valleys with the sun on your back.
He may be gone but not forgotten.
Best Regards

My deepest sympathy to the family. Bill was always very sincere and helpful to me, especially with Xareg, and he built a special version of it just for me when I couldn't get it to run on my system. He will be missed.

What a shock to read of Bill's passing, I'm truly stunned! It seems Bill and I joined this forum the same year. I've not been as active here as I once was but when visiting I always checked his posts......What a loss..... My deepest sympathies to his family and friends.....
Truly sad...
Oh my, I feel terrible to find out that such a lovely person has left us. Bill has always been one of the most helpful and supportive people in the community and never got tired of my stupid questions. I have not been around for a long while but Bill is one of the many people that I truly care about in the Xara community. He has been wonderful to me and to others and I will never forget that about him and he will not be gone from my heart.
I just found out about it.
It's so sad.
It feels like I knew him in person.
Thanks for everything, Soquili!
Haven't been around in a while..... and... I'm so, so sorry to see this thread.
My sincere condolences to Bill's family. He, and the family are in my thoughts and prayers tonight.
I will miss his great contributions to this forum....

I'm late to this thread. Bill always seemed to be here - for everybody; and now he is not.
A great loss of warmth and experience. What tragic end to an all too short life.
I've printed out this thread, which is full of the love for our friend, Soquili. I'll mail it via US Mail to his family tomorrow with the hope that it will be of some comfort to them to know that Bill was loved by people all over the world and that his memory burns bright in the hearts of so many.
I am so so sorry to read about this...Bill was one of the first people who helped me when I first posted here about my struggles with Xara. He seemed like a very kind man. God be with him, and his family.
Sad news his input will be missed by many..his Youtube tutorials have been a real help to me. Sleep well and thank you.

I want to add my condolences to the family
he was always of great help

RIP, will be sadly missed.
Bill was a true gentleman, and I had as much time for him as he did for us. And that is a lot!
His username Soquili - "burden bearer" in Cherokee - is vert apt for the amount of help and assistance he gave out. He will be missed.
My thoughts are with his family.
So sad to learn this news. Soquili gave so much time to help so many members. Will be very sadly missed. Thank you for all your help Bill.
