In fact I didn't.
But I believe even if my Undo size would be over (which is hardly to happen, for I'm currently working about 2 hours and have only 377K of 100M filled) then the oldest steps would be removed from Undo buffer, not the latest..

I have had problems with these bugs also, as mentioned by Centaurus:
- Paste in place is broken. Objects are inserted far away from drawing edges
- Gradient fill on the group is broken (only one object changes the color when you modify the gradient fill on the group)
- Colot picker works wrong, when you try to pick color from lines and strokes (i doesn't feel the line widths)
- gradient fills are very unstable now. For some reason 'start' and 'end' colors were introduced and in the case of multuple-point gradient fills you never know which handle is active if you select one (it's mostly about intermediate handles)
Undo sometimes "jumps" my drawing in some direction especially if it was zoomed in and I have to find where I was working. It's not a big deal but when it's happening over and over again...
- Undo sometimes just doesn't work
- When you change the object or line color with Color Picker, sometimes (pretty often) it doesn't work. To reactivate it you have to deselect object then select it again, change it's color randomly by picking some color in Color editor (to ensure it's ok now) and only after that you can use Color Picker again.
I still LOVE this program! I know these bugs will be fixed in time.
Do not know if this is what Centaurus is experiencing or not. If you are zoomed in on a complex shape and are performing boolean operations if you hit undo and it happens to de-select the node in view Xtreme will go back the previously selected node and attempt to adjust the screen view to show the now selected node. It happens also if delete the node in view, Xteme apparently decides what the new view should be and shifts the zoom. But this happened for me in 3.2 also.
I also agree that the gradient is a little wonky compared to earlier versions. If you have a shape selected, click the fill tool, then click and drag to create a linear gradient, release the mouse, it leaves one of the fill nodes selected but the correct color is not shown in the Color Editor. I resolve this by hitting Tab a couple of times until Xtreme sorts itself out.
I have also experienced some weird behavior with the color editor but have not been able to document it yet.
adios

Centaurus, just so you don't feel alone. I have had plenty of pasteing issues with the latest release. Some of which will crash SU and kill the file.
I've be working on a two-page, 11x17, landscape brochure.
1. As you say Paste in Place is really broken and if you copy objects from one 11x17 file and try to paste in place into another nothing happens.
2. If you want to "Crash -N-Kill", place an object at each corner of a 11x17 page 1, select the four objects, now try to drag-copy and drop them onto page 2 (in my case, it is also 11x17). Viola, you get error and Xara4 shuts down.
I just tried no.2 and no crash and burn here.
I'll try and find one of the files that do this and post. Busy now, however.
I am so glad that I can switch off the photo editor pop up.
I always managed to make this thing appear, when not wanted.
Thank you guys.
It's an ambivalent feeling: on the one hand I'm not happy Xtreme have all those bugs, but on the other hand I'm glad to feel it was not my imagination or just my individual problems. I was starting to think noone else sees them and cares about them.
I just fired up X4 - And while it's downloading a 'new' movie, it hasn't peeped about an update... Do I have to go on site to get the 'Update?'
Yes - login to your account and grab the latest version. No need to uninstall the version you have. You'll retain your customisations too ;)
Here is a screen shot when I drag copy to another page.
UPDATE:
Sledge: Window XP, SP2 ... by the way has any installed SP3 and used X4 with it?
Hmm - can't reproduce that here I'm afraid.
Which OS are you using?
I have the trial of xara4PRO do I install or re-install after downloading the update?....
or do I UN-install the first version and then install the new one?
..thankyou =D
Re-install if you need your customisations retained.
You will need to re enter your unlock/activate code in anycase.
The trial will expire in either case if you don't have an unlock code.
I did some work on a site on Saturday evening.
I also got the access violation errors dragging and dropping between pages.
Also I agree the "paste in place" has problems when you try to paste into the same place on the next page. Sometimes it works and sometimes it pastes over the top of the item on the previous page.
Apologies, Centaurus - you were right. There are some problems with these items.
I've seen this behaviour when the page you want to PiP to is scrolled to but not actually selected or the selected page isn't fully on-screen, iow, the page you are pasting 'too' isn't the only page you can see on your screen when zoomed to 100%. This causes the pasted object to jump back to the previous page as you say.
This is different to v3.2 and probably a bug as mentioned..
Sorry to be a stick in the mud (again), but when I saw the scale line width options, I thought we finally was going to see:
* Ability to scale objects but retain line width
And with that, perhaps:
* Ability to scale rectangles, but retain the corner radius
* Ability to rotate objects, and retain the angle value
The new guy at the company I work at uses InkScape as his main app. He'll have to try Xara to update the stuff I produced, so it will be interesting to hear his feedback. :)
I wonder which package will manage a mature native OS X port first... InkScape or Xara X?
When you rotate an object, it doesn't remember it's previous orientation.
For example, if you draw a square, then go into the selector tool and key 45 into the rotate box and hit enter, the square rotates, but the angle returns to 0.
What he's asking for is that an object remember it's angle. So when you first draw it, it's angle is at 0, and when you rotate, it's angle changes but the toolbar always knows what angle it's currently at. Thus you could go back to the toolbar later and enter 0 in the rotation box and get the shape back to the way that it appeared when you first drew it.
Hi,
Then rotate and then select quickshape-tool instead, there the angle will be shown.
Hans
Unfortunately that doesn't work for anything that's not a quickshape or for a quickshape that's been converted to editable shapes.
I thought that was the point, other shapes you just want to fit into place
So the angle notification isn't that much needed.
But you do have a point about the angle should remain in the field for direct editing.
Hans
gets my vote - I import scans and orient them a lot - traces too - as i put pages together - be very useful if the angle was remembered
It seems that this might be rather more complicated than people are hoping - for example, what happens if you rotate an object, then group it and then rotate the group, then set the internal object back to an angle of zero?
I suspect Xara's answer will be their usual one for this sort of feature request, that they don't like to have lots of implicit 'remembered' state for drawing objects.
Remembering the rotation (and the scale factor) can be useful but it can also be a hinderance; it just depends on what you are doing and how you go about doing it.
If Xara decides to go this route, then it should be something one can toggle on and off and also be able to flush stored values out and not have the object change it currents shape/footprint/orientation, etc.
Noticed that Xara is taunting Adobe with a comparison to Illy for speed on the website ..... now are we going to get that blend that you had up your sleeve for awhile ? Illy can then be laid to rest ;-) I know a number of people rapidly jump up and down at the mention of this but it really is most useful. Check Advanced PS mag. issue 40 which is probably 'Feb', pg 19 for an example.

When I load 4.0 it pops up and says "no major updates available".
When I click "help" - update, it says no updates available - yet I have an older ver that the one you show here.
Any suggestions? - jb
The update checker checks to see if there is a new major revision only. So if you're running 3.??, it'll tell you 4.0 is available. If you're running 4.0.1 and 4.0.2 is available, you'll never know it unless you manually go look at the web page and compare it's revision to what appears in the about box.
I also launched my Xtreme 3.2 today (as I had to move back to it from 4.0) and saw a popup with new major update.
I thought there was a new build of 4.0 available but there is nothing I can find about it at the site.
Is there a new build ready? can't wait to test it...
or was it just an advertising popup?
I hope that's being noted at Xara towers...
It would be rather sad if the guy behind http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNpoRcM_5cc was driven-out in favour of the extruders...
I just got my CD version installed today and signed up for this forum to get up to speed. I noted this message, downloaded the trial and re-installed it as you recommended.Quote:

Unfortunately, when I now try to run the program and I click on the "Enter Application Code" button I get a "Please insert the installation CD and restart the program" dialog box.
So I put the CD back in the drive and restart the program again Same error dialog box. Looks like I'm in a loop. Any suggestions?
You only need to install from the CD. It installs 4.0.4966
This is the latest version.
Doh! Thanks for that Bruce. Back to Square 1. :)
