I'll work with the new handles for a while and try not to be the old adage, people hate change. :)
That said, I always work in multiple page view and if this forces me not to work in that view then the problem is with the new "smart" handle design. It should work will both configurations.
It behave exact the same way like before. I found on the contrary, it's better to see what is selected..

Gary, as @PhilM as already pointed out, this is exactly the same with the old handles. You've just never noticed.

All shapes and controls slip under adjacent pages.
The images show the controls on the cusp of being swallowed. The rightmost blob vanishes at the page boundary.

OK. I have tried the new smart handles and they are far better than the previous bounding box handles. As Roseanne Roseannadanna used to say, "Never mind."
