Re: Saving the toolbar layout?
Scrim that registry work around has been suggested many times in the past. Unfortunately it does give some very strange results.
The subkeys are not set in stone. During one installation the bars may be in the subkeys 1 through 9 (or what ever the number actually may be). In a subsequent installation they may be in a different number range. Also the Galleries are within those same subkeys.
Loading a .reg file for a different installation may cause toolbars and galleries to become corrupted and unusable. A complete uninstall and reinstall would be required to make the program usable again.

Re: Saving the toolbar layout?
Something else to consider about the .reg theory.
If you load a .reg from say version 4 into a new installation of version 6. You would not have any of the new toolbars, for example the web tools.
Re: Saving the toolbar layout?
Like some of the others in this thread, I have successfully used the registry hack for years to save my toolbars in case I have to reinstall the existing version, but every time a new version comes along I have found no better/other way than to sit there for half an hour or so to sort out a brand new toolbar (and then save it!).
Re: Saving the toolbar layout?
Thanks for all the input people. I amust admit that when I first posed the question it was a sort of semi-idle thought and I was thinking of this as a nuisance with no easy solution answer. However the more I thought about it the more sensible an idea it seemed to be and it would be great to see some future version of DP with this as an option.
Different drawing projects frequently require a different 'ideal' toolset (wouldn't it be great if the bars could be saved as part of a drawing file - like the ftp details are for example - so that a template file can be created). Perhaps a simple cross-check between version saved and current version could serve to prevent import of an incompatible sets of bars?
Well, at least its provided some discussion and a little food for thought. I think when the new CD's arrive I'm gonna try a reg key save :D
