Okay, okay--
There's a limit to the universe of things you can do without retouching after rendering.
But this one here doesn't need retouching.
Is that the point?
BTW, this was done entirely on a Macintosh using PIXAR software.

Jens, splendid design - as always!
Glad to see you are still around, after you threatened to leave us over Webstyle!

Gary,
well, I don't know if this is the point. I never retouch any 3D image. I only use a picture publishing software to scale or crop a picture from time to time. Your picture is fantastic, however, I'd say the grapes are a bit too purple ;-}
Klaus,
I left the XARA X - there are too many Mr. Cool's in there. From time to time I will check the X gallery, that's it. Now I'm learning the C4D XL v7.1. Lot's of new features, and since 3D gives me more support for my product designs, I guess I will stay away from the X forums for a while. I have so many ideas I want to turn into reality... there is hardly any time left for me to churn out illustrations at this very moment (yup, of course I have kind of a job as a sideline to finance my ideas: you know I'm coding a lot just to survive though I really HATE coding. On the other hand it's well paid ;-} )
Guess what's in the pipeline: accessories for the breakfast and dinner table. A totally new product line. I'll post some of them right here, but I can't tell you when because I've just discovered a bug in C4D that forces me to model my ideas in Rhino again <sigh>

Jens,
What bug did you find in C4D? I have V7.1 also and still find my self going back to Rhino to model some things.

Jens--
You folks have impressed upon me to only goof with a rendering if it needs it; you can say, and with rightful pride, that you don't retouch. And I know I tend to swing the other way...I routinely retouch as a matter of getting something done quickly.
Here's another model I created. This time, as opposed to the fruit picture, the rendering was done in trueSpace. I like to see how PIXAR's RenderMan stacks up, reality-wise, with other rendering engines.

Randy,
if you model an object with FFD, deformers and convert it into a polygon mesh, add a boole and subtract i.e. a cylinder, some polys appear to be slightly tilted off the normal direction. I'm still experimenting, so it's too early to say if I will find a solution or not.
Gary,

I don't mind, because what counts is the result. However, for me it's easier and faster to modify the objects and their textures - don't ask me why, it's just the way it is ;-}
The rendering is great - the floating phone and cord and the floating line cord are great. Just the phone with the cradly looks a bit blocky, but I have to confess that I don't know anything of the old US phones...

Jens--
The telephone I modeled is from like 1960 or so, and yes, American telephones looked blocky and un-sleek.
Of course, today, a telephone can look like anything!
Yikes! I'm writing this message on a [b]telephone[/i]!!!
