It was the first time I have collaborated with someone on a logo design and I was very happy with Rik's designs (row 3 designs 2-6) and would have been happy had any of Rik's designs been selected. It was a fun project and Rik came through like a real pro. And the best part is the client was very, very happy with all of the designs and promised more work next year.
For me, it was a tremendous honour to have been asked, in the first place.
This was the first time I have been involved in anything, at a professional level, or a work level, if you like.
To try and come up with designs, when there is the pressure of a deadline, is what I enjoyed the most.
Normally I have all the time in the world to come up with a design, then if it's no good, then scrap it and start all over again. But, this time, time itself was the governing factor.
I hope you will all join me in thanking Gary, for giving an amateur a chance.
Thanks from the bottom of my heart, Gary. :salute:

Although I love to illustrate with Xara, I think I use it daily to generate splines for models I build. I stopped (as required in this thread) at the headstock for an Ovation Deacon guitar. It's a highly unusual and beautifully designed guitar that Ovation ceased making more than 25 years and vintage models in good condition fetch a pretty penny. The pickups and tuning heads and stuff are nickel and dime: very easy to sculpt and even pick up from other guitar models I've designed.
I'm doing a little art preservation with Xara and Luxology modo, the modeling and rendering program that makes it so easy to simply drag a Xara exported file right into modo's interface and get down to work pushing and extending the path in a third direction/dimension.
It's terrific to use apps that play together nicely! I've already recreated the Gibson Flying V, so I think next will be the B.C. Rich Mockingbird once this Ovation is completed.
My Best,
Gary

I, for one, am looking forward to seeing the finished article, if you wouldn't mind posting here as well?!

Re: Stop & Post July 2011
Well, Rik, I stopped and posted once again! It's hard to illustrate the method by which all the paths I'm creating (over a photo for reference) will eventually become a model guitar that can be animated and photographed in 3D space—all virtually, of course—but the more work I do in Xara with the parts, the quicker and less labor it takes in Cinema 4D.
Last guitar I modeled had about 300 parts, so I think I might take breaks now and then, and let the drums do a solo.
My Best,
Gary

Okay, for a while there I've been really busy with a lot things all going on in my life. It seemed like I was never going to have time to gt back to doing artwork, but I have finally found the time to continue with artwork for upcoming Popason CD.
Last month I posted a concept I was working on (which will be posted again) and now there are 4 concepts for the client to pick from.
These are all concepts.
*the design Enemy Of The State' is still a WIP and requires a lot more work. That is my favorite design, but it also requires the most work. 59 South Productions had been really nice about giving me the time to work out the issues in my life, so I had to send them some concepts regardless if they were finished or not. They have already been made aware that idea behind the images, and I'd be happy to go over those ideas here, if desired - I just didn't want to bore anyone.
Re: Stop & Post July 2011
Madalaynne,
Your work is great, I've just a question, is it all made in xara or some parts are photos?.
Congratulations
Re: Stop & Post July 2011
Hey jvila,
Thank you. All concepts are a mix of both photo and xara work.
These concepts are just that, concepts. I've told 59 South that we will need to take our own photos to make these concepts a reality.
