http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif Yep, John, that's part of the big dipper, Ursa Major (big bear). Mizar was a test of vision of sorts as the companion star so close to it (in visual alignment from our perspective only)could only be picked out by those with very good vision (and clear skies http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif) and the pairing was known as the "horse and rider."
The second star pic with a bit of trailing is harder to tell...but it does remind me of the top star triangle of the lid to the "teapot" of Sagittarius...but as there are loads of "triangular" star patterns it's hard to tell without more of the pattern shown.....but as it's looking like a pretty bright star, (although camera exposure times can make stars look much brighter) and because of its color, I'm also thinking it could be Spica in Virgo that you aimed at. http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Hey Mikey we are looking forward to your space scene art! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif Oh yeah Mikey -- looks like beautiful nebulosity around those stars! ( Reminds me of the Pleiades cluster (M45) in Taurus = 7 of the stars are bright enough for seeing well with the unaided eye...but with a telescope you can see the beautiful blue reflection nebulosity around the brightest ones shining off the dust of these hot young stars. The main stars of the cluster are each named for the daughters of Atlas -- one of which is named Maia. http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/wink.gif http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Beautiful work Mike!! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
