I see posts about upgrading from WD5 to WD6 but what about from XE5?
Do we get a discount? What is the cost?
I don't see any discount except from WD5.

OK, I lied. I didn't give up. The fact that the installation on my second laptop was showing the graphics for version 5 suggested a registry thing, so I re-downloaded with McAfee off for the download as well as the installation, and I now have a working version on that second laptop. Unfortunately, the same strategy hasn't worked for my first laptop... I'm still getting the same problem. No matter. At least I can trial it on one computer.
Thanks for your various responses, folks.
Yes it can be added using code placeholders with the "<head>" name assigned.
Yes if you place your HTML code that calls them into the code placeholders.Quote:
and or HTML snippets and then called with onClick or onMouseOver commands in WD6?
Why not? ;)Quote:
I'm particularly interested in using innerHTML to fill text boxes with data "on the fly"
Thanks John for the encouraging info... Now to do some testing :)
OK I'm tempted. The sales blurb suggests that I should be able to drop just about any old HTML into a page. Am I reading that right?
I gave up with V5 very early on. Since upgrading to Windows 7 I never bothered to re-install it. Will I have to load V5 and upgrade it to get V6 at the offer price?
Also, I'm a little confused. As an Xtreme Pro user am I paying for a separate version of WD6 merely to have something that will later be fully integrated into Xtreme Pro 6, or are there features and additional items in WD6 that will never appear in Xtreme? Once again sorry but I've never really used the WD features in Xtreme so I don't know how functional the Xtreme inclusion is.
Lastly, can other web design professionals give me an honest opinion? I'm looking for something that saves me having to write code in the long run (which I have been doing for the last 10 years or more). The ability to drop images and text (and javascript etc) into place and just export it as a website seems a little to good to be true. Maybe I abandoned WD5 too early but it didn't seem to be the magic solution I had hoped for. Is WD6 the answer?
Hi Jim
I used to hand code all my sites in notepad (:| A long and tedious job. I have now moved over to doing most of my web stuff in XWD. It takes all the donkey work out of the project but does not stop you tinkering (too often) with the HTML and CSS via placeholders. For smaller sites it is brilliant.
I gather that XXP6 will have the full web features but XX6 will only have the V5 version.
I would have liked if there was a possibility to preview the website in other browsers too (like in Dreamweaver). I've installed 6 browsers on my computer just to make sure they all show my websites correctly.
Is this possible to add in a patch ?
Also it would be nice to have a Search and Replace feature in future releases
Marcia, you can make feature requests in the Dear Xara.. or Dear Xara Web Designer.. forums depending on which program you are asking for :)
The Xara developers read those forums.
Is it possible to change the default colors of WD6? The dark colors are hard on my eyes. (Everything else is very EASY on my eyes!) I did not hesitate to buy it for a minute. And while some folks are complaining about the pricing, the updates, etc. I think it is absolutely the best buy for such a great product. Oh, one other question; How can I use the template pack? I can't seem to get them to install w/ WD6.
