I have a flash movie that was originally made with Flash 4. I opened it with Flash 5 and began to do work on it. In this file, there is a movie clip called "50:50" and I get an error every time I run the movie because of this. It says:
Target not found: Target="../50:50" Base="_level0.Library"
and
Target not found: Target="../50:50" Base="_level0.B"
and
Target not found: Target="/50:50" Base="_level0"
I have two other movie clips on the same layer that basically do the same thing but those are fine. Is there something with Flash 5 that prevents using colons in instance or symbol names?
Any input will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Yes, that is the answer. Flash 5 will not accept colons in instance names. I tested the first few frames that referenced this movie clip and they did not error after I took the colon out.

yes, colons are reserved, since (depending on which type of syntax you use) flash sees anything after a colon as defining an instance name. so if you say /50:20 it thinks you're referencing a subclip named 20 inside the clip 50, which is located on the root level.

While I did figure out that the colons were the problem, I really didn't understand why. Makes perfect sense though.
Thanks again Deep,
