Placeholder in web block info
Just some information on placeholders in flex blocks and not the ready made widgets from Xara.
I’ve got 3 churches that require websites that are suited to a block design. Each church has its own gmail account, and each require a separate calendar for their services. I was a little hesitant using placeholders but they worked well with some experimentation.
I moved in a blank block. Then I drew a rectangle outside the block. Then I gathered the code from google calendar and pasted into the placeholder. I then dragged the rectangle, now a widget into the blank block and adjusted the justification.
My worry was the smaller variant, and whether the placeholder sizes could be handled independently. They can be. For the phone variant I simply adjusted the code sizing.
I’ll experiment more with the sizing of the placeholders, but the flexibility of blocks from a width perspective is greatly improved.

Also experimenting with characteristics of a placeholder in a web block. IE .. can you right click and select one variant only for a placeholder or anything moved into a block .. placeholder-image-widget. I’ll reply back, also supplied the question to Matt at Xara.

Bill, try selecting an object and then stop it sharing across variants.

Thanks Acorn. That was won of the things I was testing, and it works. I assume now that any object will retain characteristic changes. Like bitmap fills, and variant choices. I usually work on elements before I drag them into the block just to make sure; although it changes may work inside the block. More experimentation.
I’m still a bit disappointed in using a block in an existing website. I can’t seem to get around the ID warnings. I’ll have to watch the video again.
