MAJOR pdf export problem...
Hi there,
Had Xara P&GD16 (and WDP17) and have upgraded to XDPX.
A client of mine updates his menu around twice a year and I've exported the file with an Adobe Reader X-3 setting and text converted to curves.
My (digital) printer uses CorelDraw to set up the print job - bleed, crop marks etc. before sending it to her Xerox printer.
Time for an update and I opened the original file in XDPX and did a "save as" with a new date and made the changes on this version.
Export as per the same settings and land up with a major disaster - see attachments!
It get's worse....I think OK I'll open the old file in P&GD16, redo all the changes, export and Bob's etc.... NO same disaster!
I tried making a bitmap copy of the "triangle" background - also a no go. And that square near the bottom is meant to be a barcode...
I've got to get this printed by Friday morning and don't know what to do...
Bunch of grabs attached - hopefully the titles explain...

Re: MAJOR pdf export problem...
It's the drop shadow!!!
New triangle new bar code - all good in CorelDraw.
Add drop shadow to triangle - stuff up!
Any idea how I solve this?

Put a drop shadow on the box... and I've just noticed it's giving the entire page a drop shadow - not selected in XDPX...

LGF, so have you solved your issue?

Thanks for responding Acorn - no I haven't - any kind of drop shadow causes this weird problem - I'll log a problem with Xara tomorrow...
Re: MAJOR pdf export problem...
Why CorelDraw? Why not write a PDF from Xara and then print? If transparencies I would try PDF X1 (X1 would flatten all to a bitmap) or PDF X4 (all may be like the original if Xara don't make a failure).
Good luck!

How do you make this?
if i export to PDF/X-1a its not a bitmap and all CMYK.
or did i missunderstand something?
at the moment i use Microsoft Print to PDF if i need a bitmap PDF.
@ Xara saving presets would be nice ...

Hi LGF,
You missunerstand it.
If your output is PDF X1 or X3 the transparencies would be flaten to a bitmap other objects or text is still vector.
An shadow in Xara is a bitmap transparency. If an object or text is under this, PDF X1/X3 will flaten (offsetting) both to a bitmap.
PDF X1 is only CMYK, PDF X3 can both CMYK and/or RGB. Fo professional printig is X1 the standard because you can't do the mistake to output a RGB PDF for offsetprinting.
If a printshop uses the Adobe Print Engine (APE) is the best to write the PDF to the X4 standard.
The same if you would interchange with other vector editors.
PDF X4 treats all objects as they were created and supports native transparencies.

Thanks for the response Ernie - BTW, it wasn't me who asked the previous question - it was rsrsrs ;)
I'm exporting as X3 - 2002...
For some reason, the shop that does my short run digital printing has to? set up the job in Corel before sending it the Xerox printer - why this is, I don't completely understand.
and I still don't understand why a single bitmap made of the triangles and shadows shows crazily in Corel
This morning, I opened those same "problem" files in Affinity Designer - and guess what - no problem!
I then created a rectangle with a shadow and a circle with transparency in Affinty Designer and created a X3 pdf from it.
Opens perfectly in XDPX and Affinty (as you would expect) but is a disaster in CD X4!
Looks like I'm going to have to change my printer... :(
