group shapes into new shape/object, not group, then edit
hi folks, this must be something elementary but my 'watsonian' brain just cant figure it out.
i have three rectangles on the same layer. the broadest one at the back, second rectangle ['band'] forward and the narrowest one up front, like a country's flag.
my objective is to shape/mould them with the shape tool AS ONE GROUP in order for the colour bands to behave like a cloth, say a flag moving in the wind.... would that be possible?
i've tried grouping them but they stay a 'group' and obviously they will have to start behaving like a single object...
i attach a jpg of what i mean
at wit's end, calling all pockets
tx in anticipation

gabriel, you possibly have Designer 10 still and it is not as clever as the later versions.
The approach is similar in all.
Make your "flag" thinner and create a new brush. For Art Brushes you don't have to make it thinner.
Draw a line and apply the brush.
Edit the brush to reduce the spacing.

Re: group shapes into new shape/object, not group, then edit
As far back as I can remember Xara has been able to do this using the Mould Tool and the Default Envelope. No need to group anything.
Select a shape or shapes.
Select the Mould Tool, apply a Default Envelope (see attachment).
Click on the corners to enable the control handles and shape your selection.
When you are done, you can Convert to Editable Shapes and if desired, Ungroup.

tx gary, yes the mould tool works and keeps the line proportions. i've been playing with it just now - some weird results:eek:
wish i had time to play with this program, the permutations are mind-boggling
tx for the help acorn and gary!
