Repeated elements at set spacing
Hello peoples
I hope someone can help with my query
I need to design a label it has as part of its design repeating lines that are 0.5mm thick but spaced 1.5mm apart and there are 80 of them.
Obviously I could take a line copy it then calculate the x,y location and enter it. But that is a pain. In other applications like my 3D cad I can use a replicate function.
Is there some trick like that in Xara Pro?
Thanks

Re: Repeated elements at set spacing
you can define the x y distance of the duplicate function displacement [in options general tab] - would that help?
Re: Repeated elements at set spacing
You could draw the beginning line and the end line and blend between them.

Re: Repeated elements at set spacing
Or create a 78-step blend of the two lines. One line at the very top of the label and one at the bottom.
Or set up your Duplication distance as handrawn suggests and press Duplicate 78 times. I have my keyboard shortcuts set to Classic Keys so duplicate is Ctrl + D So I set the duplicate distance, hold down the Ctrl key and press and hold D and in seconds I have lines from top to bottom.
Re: Repeated elements at set spacing
blend is certainly an option and possibly quicker to set up than 78 duplicates especially if the lines are straight, but you can shorten the duplicate time if you group and reset duplicate distance accordingly along the way
Re: Repeated elements at set spacing
Just try setting the spacing as I have shown and pressing Ctrl D or whatever the combination of keystrokes that are the default setting. It will fill the screen in a second or two.
Re: Repeated elements at set spacing
Draw your 0.5mm line, colour black
Clone twice (Ctrl+K) and abut each to the right, colour red.
Taken the three lines as selection and right-click drag and release to abut these.
Reselect all and repeat until more than 240 lines selected.
In the Name Gallery, pick the red colour and delete.
Reduce the black line count to 80.

Thanks everyone
Really appreciate the suggestions I will have a try of them later

Re: Repeated elements at set spacing
Gary I think if I held the key down I would shoot straight past 78 without realising it :D - each to their own..
Re: Repeated elements at set spacing
Don't know whether it's just me or what, but the default CTRL-ALT-D key combination doesn't seem to work in XP&GD16. I have to go to edit duplicate on the drop down menu for every duplication.
Can anyone verify that for me.
EDIT:
FIXED ... another program had set it as a default window key combination, and it took precedence.
