So please explain about the problems, as I have planned on using 3.
I checked many various types of sites over the weekend.
Some had 2, some had 4, some had none. Most had 3.
Two other web design programs that are in my top 3 choices have a maximum of 10 and 25. In general they suggest 3.
So What's the deal? On page 281 (user guide 11) the title is "Multiple variants" and not a couple.

This probably depends on how big your largest variant is. I like to design to about 900-1000 pixels which works in Landscape on most tablets, and in Portrait orientation the tablet displays the Mobile variant. Then I do a 480 variant for phones.
If you feel comfortable then do three. I don't think anybody will mind. :)
For sure I can, no problem Gary, the people here are polite and very helpful. Just wondering why Egg made that comment. I'm sure he has a reason or he would not have made it. So Egg, did you mean in a global sense or being specific to Web Designer and why? Perspiring minds want to know.

Hi Donald, I merely mean that four or more variants entail far more work for you, the web designer. Each image on each page on each variant requires resizing to fit the variants width. Each text style for each variant requires resizing etc, etc. It's your time it's taking up and one the client won't possibly understand nor pay for.Quote:

Mobiles and tablets, unlike desktops & laptops do a very tidy job of resizing a webpage's content to the available browser window. So for example if you create a 1200px wide website only it will display on a mobile. Display, but hardly readable without pinching/panning etc. So I prefer to create two variants, one which looks fine on a desktop/laptop of a fixed display size and a second one for smaller screen sizes which mobiles/tablets will happily shrink/grow to fill the available screen real-estate.
I've not seen a Xara variant website that has any problems displaying a site between the two variant options. However, if you and the client is happy creating/paying for more then it's not an issue :)
I do warn though that there have been issues reported on TG re more than two variant causing problems, which I can't confirm as I've never created more than the two.
