Two index pages using DP X11
I have a weird problem with my site, www.meltonoakham.org.uk.
Today I added some text to the home page (1. index). When I uploaded the site I found that another index page had been added, 1.index is the original and 2.index is the amended one. I can't delete the extra index page because DP always deletes them both. I have tried the following to in an attempt to persuade DP that the redundant page is separate from the original.
1. Renamed the redundant one. Result: both are renamed.
2. Copied the required one in anticipation of deleting the pair that I no longer need. Result: Both are copied.
I cannot ignore the redundant page because going to the site always shows the redundant page. Going home from links within the site goes to the amended page.
It is all very frustrating and obviously a fault with DP but is there a work around?
Hoping that someone can help.
Nick
Re: Two index pages using DP X11
If you created a duplicate or a new page, and did not name the new page (in the Page & Layout Gallery) Xara uses the name of the previous page and appends a number or letter.
Re: Two index pages using DP X11
I didn't originally do anything like that. All I did was add some text to the home page.
The point is that when I try to duplicate the amended page it duplicates the old redundant page as well so I get two new pages named 3. index-a and 4. index-a.

It keeps regenerating the redundant page.

Check for the latest backup you have before the addition of this text: File > Open recent > Backups...
Open that, name all your pages meaningfully: Utilities > Web Properties... > Page > Page filename & Page title.
Save this to a different filename (e.g., 20150927-sitename.web).
Close and re-open it.
Make the original text changes again.
Save and Publish.
====================
You can also try this:
Create a new blank page.
Drag it to the top page position.
Go to one of your offending pages, select all, copy & paste into your new page.
Delete 1. index (&2. index).
Rename the new page to index.

Thanks, Acorn
I did about an hour of other work before noticing the problem so I thought that I would try creating the blank page. I created the blank page immediately after the index page and it produced two bank pages: 3. index-a and 4. index-a!
I will now try adding the blank page after a different page to see if that makes any difference.

Re: Two index pages using DP X11
It produced 2 blank pages, both with the same name. So it's bakc to the last working backup.
I'll be back to let you know how I got on.

Re: Two index pages using DP X11
I have been back to the earliest version which was the only one to have only one index page. Experiment has shown that inserting a blank page produces an extra index page plus two blank pages.
When I get back home to the boat I will see if there are earlier versions on my hard drive but if there are not it looks as if the situation is irretrievable. My very large site will have to be completely rewritten. This is a serious pain and makes me wonder about the quality of XDP11.
It's all very provoking.
Any other suggestions would be gratefully considered.

Hi Nick,
I think to help you we'll need your web file, any chance of attaching it?.
The link you supplied in your first post doesn't work either.
Re: Two index pages using DP X11
You could try copying each page to a new file.
