Photoshop cs3 Resolution Problem?
I have banner file size of 1600x280cm in Illustrator cs3 have 50% (320x56cm) and i am opening it in Photoshop cs3. the problem is that software doesn't open in actual size (1600x280cm) with 72dpi resolution when i do this resolution it size convert into smaller. but with 50dpi resolution it is ok and open the file but we need a 72dpi resolution.
Thanks
Re: Photoshop cs3 Resolution Problem?
I think your problem will be at the Illustrator end, as I had no problem making a new file to that size in CS3 that you wanted but once I start working on something that large my computer would grind to a halt.
Why not bring any raster work at high res from Photoshop back into Illustrator then save your poster as a scaled down manly vector file, then let your printer do all the upsizing.
Re: Photoshop cs3 Resolution Problem?
I am not sure what you mean by 50%[320x56cm]
1600 X 280 cm is too big a size to create in illustrator, but 320 x 56 cm is ok
however this is 20% by width/hight; 4% by surface area - not 50%
Re: Photoshop cs3 Resolution Problem?
yes you are surely right its not a 50% its 20% actually (mistake)
Actual size 1600x280cm i made 20% in Illustrator cs3 and now open it into photoshop cs3 but in 72dpi not opening the actual file size which is 1600x280cm it change into something else.
what i do.

Re: Photoshop cs3 Resolution Problem?
I have CS4 - but should be similar in CS3 I think
I made an illustrator file 320 x 56 cm and saved it as an AI file
I then opened this in photoshop - photoshop would not let me open it at 1600 cm wide 72 dpi - the maximum I was allowed at 72 dpi was 1128.22cm so I opened it at this size - see first attachment below
I then went to the image menu image size in photoshop where it showed as in the second attachment below
I changed the document width to 1600 cm [make sure the constrain proportions box is ticked]
Photoshop actually upsized it to 1599.99 cm wide as in the third attachment below - the slight changes in the dimension [1599.99 x 280.85 cm] is likely due to the rasterisation when importing into photoshop - you may get slightly different divergence, as it depends to an extent what is in the file..
This is a large document - it takes over 1GM of memory, and saves over 60MB and it is essentially empty...
It will save from photoshop in large document format [psb not psd] - you may know this
the upsizing may degrade the quality of the vector work - so you need to check this
EDIT: RTW1 has made a good alternative suggestion ...
Re: Photoshop cs3 Resolution Problem?
im really thankful to you, i got understand everything it means.
i did the same procedure as you mentioned in your reply opened the file with 72dpi but there was no actual size which needed so i open it and go to image size and did what i need. with the same resolution only the miner problem was appeared the edges of the text was diffused or blurred not too much it was.
it mean there is no such way to open this file in photoshop cs3 72dpi with 600x280cm. just i need to know what is the reason only. thanks
Re: Photoshop cs3 Resolution Problem?
ok - it appears that CS3 does not support PSB format, so you will need to keep your file size within 2GB otherwise you will not be able to save in PSD format
it may be better to work the way RTW1 suggests, I think I would as it would most likely be quicker and easier... there is no need to make it at such a large size if your printer can do the upsizing....
Re: Photoshop cs3 Resolution Problem?
i dont have to make psd file actually i have to make a tiff file format for digital printing on hp scitex machine. it accepts only tif format.
Re: Photoshop cs3 Resolution Problem?
I was thinking you might be saving in psd format for future use/editing ?
Depending on what you are doing in Photoshop, a tiff may not be suitable for this
Glad that you are now happy with the situation :)
Re: Photoshop cs3 Resolution Problem?
the work has been done in Illustrator cs3 thats why no need to save in psd format i just need to make a tiff format for the production house. now i did open the new document in photoshop cs3 make is size of accordingly and give 72dpi resolution and copy paste the artwork in photoshop so finally i have done as i want.
Thanks
