HayTay's Eclectic Collection of Strange and Unusual Photographs
We all see strange, unusual, and downright weird stuff all of the time but rarely stop and capture the sight. This is, and will be, a collection of all of the freaky, and not so freaky, things where I took the time and snapped a photo. I don't think I'll be winning any photo contests with these, but, what the heck, I'll have a bit of fun, anyway. Besides cropping and adjusting the color, contrast, sharpness and maybe tweaking the color a tad, these photos are NOT Photoshopped, Xtremed or otherwise altered. In other words, these are, or were, real photos of real places or events.
On with the show,
Harry
This looks like a building that Jack built, and not very well, at that. Or maybe it's built too well since it's been standing and obviously added to on several occasions. Maybe some of you have even seen it, since it's located right on Bragg Boulevard in Fayetteville, NC, not far from the Fort Bragg Army Base and Pope Air Force Base.

Re: HayTay's Eclectic Collection of Strange and Unusual Photographs
Sometimes trees grow horizontally in NC. They are such a delicacy after reaching a certain stage in their growth that deer come by and chew the bark off. This eventually leads to the tree's demise. Shortly thereafter, the tree starts to decay evenly from both ends leaving these bizarre trunk fragments dotting the woods.
Yeah! Right! Seriously, now! This is a section of fence post along US Highway 421 South in Goldston, NC. It appears to have been wedged in a tree with a split trunk. Judging by the growth around the post it has been stuck in there for a few years, at least. It definitely makes you do a double take the first time you catch a glimpse of the post while whizzing past it at 55-60 m.p.h.

Yes!, that building is 5 stories high. Unfortunately this picture doesn't do the building real justice. And what's with those doors on the 4th and 5th floors? There aren't any landings to step out on!!! The 3rd floor has a landing but no railing. The 5th floor appears to have a landing with partial railings on the left and right sides. I don't remember about the left side but the right side doesn't appear to have a door to get to the landing. And who made the decision to place half of the 5th floor at a 90º angle? Next time I get down that way I'll risk life and limb to snap a photo from a different camera angle. Maybe one from the other side of the highway.

I cracked up when I saw this hanging on the wall at the Pittsboro, NC branch of the Central Carolina Community College. Since then I've seen several others decorating the walls in buildings on their other campuses. They still make me chuckle every time I come across another one. :D
In light of the recent recession and North Carolina's tax shortfalls, over budget and underfunded programs, mismanagement and embezzlement of funds, and the prosecution and subsequent incarceration of elected officials, I'm thinking this First Aid Kit for the State of North Carolina needs to be a lot larger. With all of the other states, municipalities, provinces, countries, etc. pretty much in the same boat in all of their financial and political dealings, I think putting these kits together might be big business. Then again, customizing each kit with pre-cut vinyl, self adhesive letters might get a little tedious.
If there was only a shred of proof that they would work as advertised. ;)
Payment is to be either prepaid or COD only. All sales are final. >:)

Since she wasn't cremated, I guess she had to be buried somewhere. As it turns out, that 'somewhere' is not too far from my home. The 'she' I'm referring to is Frances E. Bavier, better known for her role as Beatrice 'Aunt Bee' Taylor on The Andy Griffith Show. Here's a photo I took of Aunt Bee's headstone, which, along with what's left of Ms. Bavier, currently resides in the Oakwood Cemetery, Siler City, NC.
I live near semi-famous dead people,

Hmmm... It looks like you had left some graffiti on that stone. Didn't you? >:) :D

Not me, John. Never!
I just happened to be at the right place at the right time to discover that we've been lied to all these years. This photo shows how clouds are really made. ;)
Anyone that was watching me shoot these pictures knows for sure that I'm off my rocker. The strange cloud formation kept moving on me while I was trying to focus and snap the picture! Darn cloud! I was forced to do a strange dance in the parking lot so I could anticipate the cloud being directly over the smoke stack. I missed a few times, what can I say. :o The smaller cloud near the lower chimney just didn't want to cooperate. It's too bad I couldn't get both of them to line up correctly.

Continuing down US Highway 421 South at the posted speed of 55 mph you can reach Climax in about 60 seconds. Ahhhh, Climax NC, that is!
As to the second picture, well, I guess all the runoff has to go somewhere.
I wonder who named this town? And what were they thinking?
Enjoy,
Harry
