A way to "correctly" print double-page spreads?
Hello!
I'm planning to do a very "spontaneous" christmas present, and in hopes that I won't get the "General error in the PDF filter" on export, I plan to do it in Xtreme ;)
My question: I want to print a small A5 brochure (portrait), on A4 paper (landscape), with double page spreads. Is there any way to get "correct" page ordering from Xtreme, so that it outputs:
Page 8 | Page 1 (on a single landscape A4 page)
Page 6 | Page 3 (on a single landscape A4 page)
Page 4 | Page 5 (on a single landscape A4 page)
Page 2 | Page 7 (on a single landscape A4 page)
Probably I'm missing something obvious, but I can't find the option...
Re: A way to "correctly" print double-page spreads?
DUH! Seems like Adobe Reader can print it this way, it's called "Booklet Printing"... Should have looked harder! :)

I take it you have set your page size to A5 and then worked you way through your booklet? You will also be printing it at home? If it was me that it was doing it then all I would do the following:
1. open another 4 Xara docs. up all A4 and landscape,
2. set up guides with rulers and copy and paste your pages in
3. print your pages one by one turning them when required.

It can be all done in Xara, add text to push it onto the next page.
When the text area is full a triangle will appear at the bottom right of the frame, click and drag to overflow into another text area.

Thanks for both your replies.
I probably didn't phrase my original question very well: I know that you can overflow textareas into one another... however, my question was about page order. I really feels really backwards having page 1 and page 16, page 2 and page 15 etc. on opposite spreads, so I was asking if you could actually create the pages in the 'natural order' in Xara (1, 2, 3, 4, ...), and then have Xara export the individual pairs in the "booklet" order (1+16, 2+15 etc.).
As I said, I found this is possible from inside Adobe Reader after exporting all individual spreads to a PDF in "normal" order, and then choosing the "Boolket printing" option there. I was just wondering if it was possible directly inside Xara.

No! in just one word. That is why Acro is everyone's friend.

RIGHT! (in just one word! ;))

Hi Alexander
The function you're looking for is called "imposition", and no, Xtreme doesn't do it. It's a feature that's generally found in a real DTP application, which Xtreme is not. Printing through Reader is probably your best bet.

Probably too late for Christmas, but have you looked at your printer settings? Many printers nowadays come with a "Booklet" setting, allowing you to print out the pages in the order you specified. This setting also allows you to set the page size (e.g., A5) and the paper size (e.g., A4).
I made a eight-page document in XX5 and printed it on my Canon as a booklet. Works quite well.

Hey,
didn't look there, but the problem has already been aleviated by the Adobe Reader Print dialog anyway. Thanks though :)
