The brush tool can be a great way to produce a tile.
The steps below may seem long winded, but once you've worked thru it I'm sure it will become fairly straight forward
1: Draw a line (I used a spiral)
2: Make line width largish (6pts)
3: Apply a stroke (convex3)
4: Apply a bevel (5%)
5: Convert to editable shapes / ungroup /deselect
6: Select the original shape / delete
7: This leaves only the bevel
8: Arrange / make bitmap copy
9: Make brush /size / spaving rotation as desired
10: Draw a spiral with brush
11: Draw a square covering the a section of the painted spiral
12: Put square to back / Select square and painted spiral
13: Arrange / apply clip view
14: Arrange / make a bitmap copy
15: Apply a bevel
16: Arrange / make a bitmap copy
You now have a tile that you can use as you wish. Some very rich textures can be made using this method and the bevel ensures that the tile repeats acceptably.

Very nice... I see your an early riser or have you been up all night.
Have you found any way to unload unwanted brushes while experimenting I find it starts to slow things down if you create very many.

The only way I know of clearing the brush gallery is to save all your work and quit XX. When you reopen it the brushes have disappeared. The brushes should'nt slow you down to much tho. I've had 20 plus and noticed no slow down

This has been my experience, perhaps I am just expecting too much with all the samples I had on the screen. The redraw slows down and I am stting waiting for it to finish.

One advantage of the bevel tool is that your pattern/texture doesn't have to merge perfectly the bevel takes care of that for you.
Here is one I did for some friends, used on a game related site.

Egg,
How do you come up with all the ideas?? Between you and Ivan, there are so many interesting things to try, I'll be well into my second century before getting to them all.
Great Work!!!
