Web Designer importing images wrong size
I'm new to Xara Web Designer but we have a number of jpg images with a resolution of 72ppi and 760 pixels wide. When we import them into a 760 pixel wide page they come in about 500 pixels wide? Any way to bring them in so we don't have to resize them?
Thanks
kevin
Re: Web Designer importing images wrong size
Don't bother replying anyone I've found that this is how the program is designed. A bit bizarre in my opinion - why not set it to the maximum page size like 760. Anyway, I've found the XaReg which can change it.

Re: Web Designer importing images wrong size
Hello again Keven
72 dpi is default screen resolution for the Mac. Windows screen resolution is 96 dpi. Most Adobe programs insist on 72 dpi even though there many more Windows users than Mac users. And even though Adobe begrudgingly supports both platforms.
Re: Web Designer importing images wrong size
There was a lengthy thread about the 500pix issue here.
Re: Web Designer importing images wrong size
At first I thought the 500 pixel resize must be a bug but then realised sadly no! - it was actually coded like that. I mean a 1000 pixel limit would have been too much to ask. This undocumented "feature" wasted a good bit of my time trying to figure out what on earth was going on when trying to import a ridiculously wide, wait for it.... 575 pixel banner
It's frightening how a programmer or software team can arrive at such a daft limit! and accidentally visiting a forum and by chance finding the reason for this crazy behaviour was a real let down.
It must be the old maxim that a camel is a horse designed by a committee.

Re: Web Designer importing images wrong size
You can set this to your requirements
From the help file.
Quote:
Initial Photo size
When you import a photo into a drawing or web document, by default if it's bigger than 500 pixels wide the photo is automatically scaled down to 500 pixels. This is because it's rarely useful to drop a huge digital camera photo into a drawing document and have it displayed at its full size, so it's scaled down to a more manageable size. You can change this behavior on the View tab of the Utilities->Options dialog:

I must have been taken to an alternative universe or maybe the screenshot is from a distant version of XWD

Re: Web Designer importing images wrong size
My error, screen shot is from Xara Xtreme 5, forgot which forum I was in.
I would have thought this was possible in some way with XWD though, will have to investigate.

Hi broomcroft
Import your file and check the bitmap gallery. The image appears to be held as full size. I think all you have to do is resize the displayed version.

Re: Web Designer importing images wrong size
Yeah, Web Designer was "simplified" to make it easier for new users. I wish they would unsimplify it a bit. :D
The image may be reduced to the 500 pixel maximum width but you can resize it as long as the image does not exceed 96 dpi (the resolution is shown on the status bar in the lower left side of the window and changes as the image is resized).
