Songs you can identify in 5 sec
A theme that's a bit related to my previous post about future evergreens, I wanted to ask you about songs you can identify in 5 seconds when the song starts.
For example Smoke On The Water (Deep Purple), Highway To Hell (AC/DC), I Was Made For Loving You (KISS), Every Breath You Take (The Police).... (I guess you can figure out my taste in music... :-) )
Re: Songs you can identify in 5 sec
Wish You were Here - Pink Floyd (1½ seconds)
Caroline - Status Quo (2 seconds)
Johnny B Goode - Chuck Berry (2 seconds)
Hey Jude - The Beatles (1 second)
<fill this space with many many more Beatles songs>
..........
Gosh you know there'd be hundreds of songs I'd be able to ID. Five seconds is quite a bit of time.
Anything from the 90's onwards I'd have a bit of trouble with I think.
And forget anything this century, all I hear is [c]rap!
Re: Songs you can identify in 5 sec
I like to think that I know quite a bit of modern era music (except [c]rap). As Sledger said, 5 seconds is an eternity. I would think that I can identify an awful lot of the songs that I've heard before in 5 seconds. Give me 60's - 80's and I've got even more chance.
Re: Songs you can identify in 5 sec
Five seconds is a very long time....but with my memory it would be too short. "I remember that...now what was the title.......who recorded it.......darn I should know that". :D
A song may be playing for a minute or so before I actually hear it because I'm engrossed in a project.
Re: Songs you can identify in 5 sec
Ok, everyone that can identify a song in two second get a silver star, and a gold star for songs identified in one second :D
Re: Songs you can identify in 5 sec
Hard to tell. I often have the same problem as Soquili :D
But those Beatles songs for example can be identified in few seconds. Times about 2 seconds or less applies for example to ABBA (SOS, Summer Night City), Duran Duran (Ordinary world), Roxette (Crash! Boom! Bang, Milk and Toast and Honey), Coldplay (Scientist) and of course to all my favorite metal pieces by Nightwish (Ghost love score, Nemo, Siren, Wish I had an Angel...) or Tristania (Equilibrium), Lacuna Coil... there's a number of them.
Re: Songs you can identify in 5 sec
Even if you have been living on Zardoz for the past 50 years,
these, 2 titles for each second, will be identified by anyone in under;
1 second:
(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction - Rolling Stones
Yesterday - Beatles
2 seconds:
Penny Lane - The Beatles
Summer In The City - The Lovin' Spoonful
3 seconds:
California Dreamin' - Mamas & Papas
Because They're Young - Duane Eddy
4 seconds:
Crocodile Rock - Elton John
Albatross - Fleetwood Mac
5 seconds:
Take 5 - Dave Brubeck
Hey Joe - Jimi Hendrix Experience
Not all are in my favourite tracks list, you understand,
but I think they meet the required criteria.
Saludos,
Bob.
Re: Songs you can identify in 5 sec
Star Spangled Banner (Francis Scott Key)
0.2 seconds:D
What do I win??
Re: Songs you can identify in 5 sec
Sorry Bob, But I think that I failed the audition ......
That I know of, I have never heard "Because They're Young - Duane Eddy" - Maybe I'll recognise it when I hear it, but naming it ..... Not a hope. "Take 5 - Dave Brubeck" I know and love, but if you hadn't just mentioned the title, I don't think that I would have recalled it. We all have such varied tastes. Most of what Suvek listed ("Nightwish, Tristania and Lacuna Coil") are a complete blank to me. I don't even recognise some of the band names, never mind know the songs ..... Darn. Maybe I'm getting old .......
