Does everyone (except me) know about Terragen now? I think it blows Bryce away for realism, especially in the clouds.
Here's the URL to download a demo fully functional copy:

Gary,
I downloaded it a few weeks ago. Output is great! The only think I wish for is the abililty to import .obj files with textures. Then Bryce would be in trouble.

Randy--
Terragon is going to have trees in its next version. The thing sells for $80. Bryce has shrunken from a terrain builder to a rendering environment.
Why don't you render your objects, render in Terragen, and then use Photoshop (or Photonyx...I'll get the URL for that program in my next message.)
It isn't cheating. honest. When I had limited RAM, I had to do a rendering in four stages, one for each area of the composition.
I can't get over how natural Terragen images look. I've wasted half my work day using it!

Terragen looks great. My only problem is not being able to export from Terragen into LightWave (or any other program).
Compositing in Photo-Paint would be fine, but the quality is never as high as it would be if it were all rendered in the same environment. Then there's the issue of animation. Programs like Aura could easily composite two animatons together without a problem, but doing it frame by frame in Photo-Paint would be...heh, gruesome.
But I do like the quality...

I agree with Earl. Gary, If you check out my post from about 3 weeks ago. (Triplane - Terragen composite) you can see I have done this. But as Earl has pointed out it is much better to render in one package. This makes shadows much easier.
I agree one can do a great job in Photoshop, but it can be easier to do it in a single render.

Still using Terragen and loving it.

Take a look at Vue d'Esprit 4. It's great. Even though I just upgraded to Bryce 5 I'm finding Vue much easier to work with and the results are fantastic.

Yep, Gary, this is a fantastic app! I just downloaded it a little while ago, and this is my first keeper. Took about 40 minutes of playing around with it to get this, not really knowing what I was doing at first, but this seems a pretty quick-to-learn program, at least at the beginner stage.

Northtiger, that's gorgeous! I've been experimenting with Terragen some more and I've come to the conclusion that my first image was a luck-out, and to not over-work things. I haven't been able to get another image as good as that one yet. The more I tweek things, the more they get messed up.
Oh well, start over again!
