Tip from Egg Bramhill
The brush tool can be a great way to produce a tile.
The steps below may seem long winded, but once you've worked thru it I'm sure it will become fairly straight forward
 Draw a line (I used a spiral)
 Make line width largish (6pts)
 Apply a stroke (convex3)
 Apply a bevel (5%)
Convert to editable shapes / ungroup /deselect
Select the original shape / delete
 This leaves only the bevel
 Arrange / make bitmap copy
Make brush /size / spaving rotation as desired
 Draw a spiral with brush
Draw a square covering the a section of the painted spiral
Put square to back / Select square and painted spiral
 Arrange / apply clip view
Arrange / make a bitmap copy
 Apply a bevel
Arrange / make a bitmap copy
You now have a tile that you can use as you wish. Some very rich textures can be made using this method and the bevel ensures that the tile repeats acceptably.
