Quick question from a non-3d oriented web designer:
What application(s) would enable me to create a simple glassy effect, as is used on the apple.com site navigation? (Also, what tools would I use to create the textures and look found at whoswestudios.com?)
Thanks

Don't know what you have for illustration programs but would suggest you look at the XaraX
forum here, it is great for what you are looking to do.

Have a look at the 2 tutorials above by Gary Priester at the XaraXone and you will see what I mean. Hope this helps a little.

Yes i agree... pretty much any app can create the buttons from Apple's site. XaraX would be my first choice, but PSP or Photoshop are also good choices -- except for their much higher price tags.
This is a mimic i did of the chrome ball in the "whoswe.com" flash intro. I did it only as an example to someone on another board that Photoshop alone could be used to create such an effect.
My image here is 100% Photoshop, but theirs is a 3D render. Which they needed to do to have the animation.
So basically put i guess... with the right "knowledge", you can use a variety of 'tools' to produce the images you need.
