Unable to open this SWF file
Hello
I'm using Xara Photo & Graphic Designer 11.
I have some SWF files that I want to import and edit.
The files have no animation. It's just vector shapes.
I'm not able to open them in Xara.
I've attached one file here as an example.

Does anyone have any other suggestions about how I can open and edit it in Xara?
I've found this software:
https://github.com/flying-sheep/SWF2SVG
but can't seem to get it working. It tries to open Adobe Air installer every time I run the command from the command line.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you.
Re: Unable to open this SWF file
Hi Jim and welcome to TalkGraphics.
It's many years since I used Flash. If I remember correctly Flash's native file was .fla The exported file was .swf
However even in the days of Flash you couldn't import a .swf file to Flash, that was the export file.
There was some software to reverse import a swf file to Flash but generally all were crap.
Sorry I can't help further.

Re: Unable to open this SWF file
Thank you Egg!
I didn't actually realise that SWF was actually the compiled version of the file.
Your mention of "reverse importing" led me to look deeper into SWF decompiling, and I found an open source software that can decompile the SWF and export it as an SVG.
https://github.com/jindrapetrik/jpexs-decompiler
Now, it gives me the SVG (I've attached an example here), and I know if works, because the SVG will open in the browser, and I can open and edit it in Affinity.
But it doesn't open in Xara. It just imports something 'invisible' and I can't seem to make anthing visible. Is that because of my version (it's version 11) or can Xara just not handle this format properly?
Thank you.
Re: Unable to open this SWF file
I'm moving this to Dear Xara where I can only hope it will come to the attention of someone at Xara. :)

Is this what you're looking for?
I marquee selected the small white rectangle and enlarged it by dragging the resize handle.

Aha, so it does work! Thank you for your comment. I downloaded a trial of the latest version and see that it does work as your screenshot shows. So I guess that it's just my older version that doesn't handle it.
Thank you again.
