The following uses the Point Frame Bevel in Xara X. The fill of the font-face was removed. With the bevel selected, a BitMap fill(grass)was applied to the bevel. Red and orange were used to recolor the bitmap fill and the resolution was changed to 300. Finally, the feathering tool was used to "thin-down" the bevel. I'm thinking that a bitmap fill of a flames might also produce an interesting effect.
