Tom, do you have a link to where you found this font? It would be helpful to know what font you are referring to before trying to answer your question. A google search for "Candy Cane Font" and "Xara 3D" only resulted in a few links that were supposed to have settings for using the font within Xara 3D, but turned out to be sites that want to sell fonts.
Hi, Tom
You can go to http://www.fryfonts.com/free-font/23 and download a free candy cane ttf (it's based on Frankfurter Medium), but you won't be happy with the results because fonts are fill and space--which means the white of the candy cane stripes is a "drop out" color. And the negative space creates a hole in the font when used in X3D.
A better solution, perhaps the one you seek, is to create a 45 degree tiling red and white stripe pattern, then map it to any typeface. See attached example.

Gare
Thanks Gare -loved you post! I believe you Idea will work out better. I am Posting my Card - will work on Amending later to a tile/texture - Thanks! Tom

Here's the tiling stripe pattern and the tiling background. Just apply them using the Texture controls.
Happy Thanksgiving, folks!
