PDF with layers Export bug
Hi Xara developers,
Would you like to confirm if you could reproduce this bug
in the PDF export from latest Xara version?
I asked for advice about this bug in this thread:
http://www.talkgraphics.com/showthre...DF-with-Layers
When I export (as PDF with layers) a Xara file with
Contoned grayscale images on different layers using
Stained Glass transparency, the resulting PDF
does not show the colorized transparent images
on different layers.
Please, export as a PDF with layers the attached
Xara file. Notice that the Xara file should look like
the attached image. That is, the contoned images
should appear colored in Cyan, Magenta, Yellow
and Black. Each image had applied a Stained glass
transparency.
When I opened the exported PDF in Illustrator,
the program reported an error about an "Unreleased"
format and individual images appears deeply nested
inside groups... groups that I do not created.
So, the key points to investigate are:
Contoned grayscale images with Stained Glass
transparency on different layers, exported
as PDF with layers.

Re: PDF with layers Export bug
I think the problem is that Designer Pro 6 does not support contoned bitmaps. I was hopeful that Designer Pro 6 would have support for contoned bitmaps and duotones. And this feature was discussed at length with Xara Q&A. But alas, not in this release.
It is of course of primary importance if the PDF export filter is to be of maximum use.
I suspect if it was easy to do, it would have been done. Which leads me to believe that is is not an easy feature to implement.
But we can always hope.
Re: PDF with layers Export bug
Just looking at your drawing and if you had the original coloured picture why not use the Live Effects Tool and use the Flaming Pear plugin where you can turn your picture from each of the RGB colours to the grey equivalent. All that you have to do is to copy your picture to clipboard and place it in your channel new layer each time. Not I am not sure if I downloaded this plugin or if it comes with Design Pro 6? I am sure out there you could on the web you will have programmes which would convert your file to a proper greyscale without the necessity to use layers or is there another reason as you could use Illy?
Re: PDF with layers Export bug
In my first message, there is a link to
the original thread about this bug.
In my last message for that thread,
I wrote:
-------------------------------------------
In first place, I changed the transparency of
every Contoned bitmap from Stained Glass to Mix.
Then, I created a bitmap copy of every
Contoned image. This copy was a PNG
file without alpha transparency.
Finally I deleted every Contoned image,
and set the transparency of each PNG
to Stained Glass.
The final result is identical to using the
Contoned TIF grayscale images and
(the most important) the Exported PDF file
with layers works exactly as expected.
-------------------------------------------
So, the problem seems to be exporting
contoned bitmaps to pdf.
A Dialog warning about this bug, with possible
workarounds, could be fine (at least for now).

A fix would be even better. ;)
Re: PDF with layers Export bug
It should be noted that Alejandro is using Xara Xtreme 3.2.3.2317 CD Jul 13 2007.
The issue seems to have been corrected in newer versions.

Bill,
This is real good news!
Many thanks for this info. :-)
